JAMMU, Apr 19: On the eve of birthday of 9th Sikh Guru, Guru Teg Bahadur Ji, a Nagar Kirtan (religious procession) was taken out by All J&K Sikh Unity Forum (AJKSUF) in Simbal Camp.
Harvinder Singh, Naib Sarpanch and general secretary, AJKSUF, highlighted the life as well as sacrifices of Guru Teg Bahadur Ji. He said that Guruji sacrificed his life for the protection of Hindu religion of Kashmiri Pandits and maintaining unity, brotherhood and peace among the human beings.
He advised the devotees to follow the footsteps of Guru Teg Bahadur Ji, who always served and helped the poor people and fought against injustice in the society.
Guru Teg Bahadur ji was born in April 1621 at Tyag Mal in Amritsar and became the 9th Guru of Sikhs on April 16, 1664, following the footsteps of his grand nephew Guru Harkrishan Ji.
Guruji was the youngest of 5 sons of Guru Hargobind Ji. The name Teg Bahadur (Mighty of Sword) was given to him by Guru Hargobindji after he had shown his valour in a battle against the Mughals.
In November 1675, Guru Ji was executed on the orders of the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb at Chandni Chowk in Delhi, where Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib was built later in His memory.
Besides, Gurdwara Rakab Ganj was also built in Delhi, on site of residence of Lakhi Shah Vanjara, a disciple of Guruji who burnt his house in order to cremate the Guruji’s body.
