SRINAGAR, Oct 21: National Archives of India has assured to extend financial assistance and expertise to Jammu and Kashmir for archiving of records including rare scriptures.
The assurance was given by Deputy Director National Archives of India, Dr Tassaduq Hussain, during his visit to State Archives Repository.
On the request of Director Archives Archaeology and Museums J&K Government, Mohammad Shafi Zahid, the expert from NAI delivered a lecture wherein all the officers/officials were present. The speaker threw light on new techniques introduced in National Archives of India in the field of Archival Management, Appraisal of Records, Weeding out of Records, Digitization of Records (Preserving of Records through microfilming) etc.
Dr Tassaduq Hussain assured that National Museum, New Delhi will provide all possible financial assistance to the department for development of Archives Repositories in J&K. He said now the financial aid has been raised from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 50 lakh and the department should take benefit from these schemes.
Meanwhile, Dr Tassaduq was apprised by the concerned officer about the important records preserved in State Archives Repositories of Jammu and Kashmir. The expert suggested that all the important records from different department of J&K should be transferred to Archives Department, so that they can be well preserved for posterity.
The interaction with the expert of National Archives helped to remove the doubts about public and private records that can be provided to the scholars by this department. He appreciated the efforts of the department for holding Archival Exhibition, Heritage Walks, Workshops and making Museum as a hub of knowledge by holding International Museums Days.
In his address, Director, Archives Archaeology and Museums J&K, Mohammad Shafi Zahid, presented details about some important records that are preserved in the repositories of the department, which reflects the rich administration and techniques used from early time in J&K.
