BHADERWAH, June 24: To remember the supreme sacrifice of one of decorated soldiers of Indian Army, Rashtriya Rifles based at Bhaderwah paid rich tribute to Naib Subedar Chunni Lal on his 16th martyrdom day at his native village Bharra.
The wreath laying ceremony was performed by CO 4 RR, Col. Yogesh Chohan; SSP Doda, Abdul Qayoom; ADC Bhaderwah, Dilmir Chowdhary while many senior officers from district administration, Police, Army, NCC cadets, students and locals also participated in the function was held in this regard at Shaheed Chunni Lal Park.
Naib Subedar Chunni Lal was a resident of Bhara village in Southa Panchayat of Bhaderwah and he attained martyrdom while fighting infiltrators in Kupwara sector on June 24, 2007.
Martyr Chunni Lal of 8th Bn JAKLI was the only soldier who received Sena Medal, Veer Chakra and Ashok Chakra (Posthumous) simultaneously.
As token of respect to the martyred soldier, gifts were presented to his wife and parents by Col. Yogesh Chohan who also inquired of their well being.
Family members of the Martyr termed him as a source of inspiration for the younger generation.
“I am proud of my father and his achievements as he was and will always remain the number one soldier of Indian Army”, said Aarti Thakur, 25, daughter of the martyred soldier.
Shanker Dass, Chuni Lal’s father said: “I am proud of my son and his achievements.”
ADC Bhaderwah, Dilmir Chowdhary said, it is very important to remember sacrifices of brave soldiers who fought for the sovereignty of nation and laid their lives for the country.
