NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today effected major reshuffle in his Council of Ministers entrusting Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu with the charge of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, taking away HRD from Ms Smriti Irani and giving it to Mr Prakash Javadekar besides entrusting additional charge of Law to Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad divesting Mr Sadananda Gowda of the portfolio.
Ms Irani has been shunted out to the Textiles Ministry. There has been no change in the top ministries of Defence, Finance, External Affairs and Home. Mr Modi, who inducted 19 new Ministers of State(MoS) besides elevating Mr Javadekar to Cabinet rank, also changed the portfolio of Mr Jayant Sinha from Finance to Civil Aviation, according to sources.
Mr Ananth Kumar has been made new Minister of Parliamentary Affairs in place of Mr Naidu. Mr Kumar will continue to hold charge of Chemicals and Fertilisers. Among the new MoS, Mr M J Akbar will be joining Gen V K Singh in the MEA, while Mr Arjun Meghwal has been given Finance and Mr S S Ahluwalia will be MoS Agriculture and Parliamentary Affairs.
Mr Madhav Dave has been given charge of Environment Ministry and Mr Vijay Goel, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. First time MP Anupriya Patel will be Dr JP Nadda’s junior in the Ministry of Health and Family welfare. (AGENCIES)
