‘Name Bani College on Vir Singh’

KATHUA, Sept 9: The people of Bani have demanded naming of the Government Degree College Bani on the name of brave soldier of Bani , LNK, Vir Singh who has fought Second World War in Burma as brave soldier and won five medals and Victoria Cross.
While addressing the media persons Rakesh Thakur said that 17 Dogra Regiment LNK was resident of village Duggan in Bani area and was only brave solider of this area who has fought Second World War in Burma.
He was decorated with Sena Medal and appreciation letter by Maharaja Hari Singh on 30.4.1945. He was decorated with five military medals after World War. But unfortunately till date no one from past Governments honoured the soldier’s family and did not recognize his services to nation. His family is living in deplorable condition and working as laborer to earn their livelihood . He said that it’s good and appreciable step of the Government to recognized the services of freedom fighters and martyrs with renaming the prestigious institution on them.
