JAMMU, July 5: Bharat Bhushan Bodhi, Chairman of District Development Council (DDC), Jammu, today called for the naming of a Government school after the brave martyr, Kargil Shaheed Udhay Maan Singh who laid down his life on July 5, 1999, at Tiger Hill while bravely fighting against Pakistani forces in the Drass Sector of Kargil, as he is deserving this tribute to honor his sacrifice.
The DDC Chairman made this demand while paying heartfelt tribute to Shaheed Udhay Maan Singh on his martyrdom day at the Shama Chak village in the Marh area of Jammu district. On the occasion, Omkar Singh, father and Kanta Devi, mother of Shaheed Udhay Maan Singh were also present.
Pertinent to mention here that Udhay Maan Singh was the brave soldier of 18 Grenadier Indian Army who recaptured Tiger Hill and during the gun fight at Tiger Hill. He killed about 20 Pakistani soldiers before laying down his life on July 5, 1999. Just 18 years of age Udhay Maan showed highest level of bravery and fought like a great warrior. He was posthumously conferred with Sena Medal.
Expressing deep reverence for the Kargil war martyrs, Chairman Bodhi emphasized that their sacrifices should never be forgotten. He reiterated that the nation will forever remain indebted to the brave martyrs of Kargil. He said the Jawan like Udhay Maan showed exemplary bravery and valor in hitting out the Pakistani forces from Kargil.
He said Indian Army is the best force in the world because of the commitment, dedication and nationalism of its jawans. He said “We are living freely because our Jawans are alert on borders and discharging supreme duty for the country”. He asked the youth to follow the path of patriotism and work for the motherland as Shaheed Udhay Maan did for our country.
In addition to his demand for a school to be named after Shaheed Udhay Maan Singh, Bharat Bhushan also raised serious concerns about the rising drug-related activities in society. He called upon civil society members and parents to play their vital role in combating this menace. Recognizing the detrimental impact of drug abuse on individuals and communities, he appealed for collective efforts to address and eradicate this problem.
The DDC Chairman stressed the importance of a strong and united front against drug abuse.
