Namgyal reviews wildlife restriction issues in protected areas

LEH, Mar 20: Member Parliament, Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal convened a meeting today with officials of Union Ministry of Forest, Environment and Climate Change at Ladakh Bhawan, Delhi, to review the prevailing wildlife restriction issues and rationalization of boundaries, as well as the realignment of wildlife, protected areas in UT Ladakh.
The meeting deliberated in detail about the status of ongoing de-notification/realignment of wildlife protected areas, including the Changthang Cold Desert Wildlife Sanctuary, Karakoram Wildlife Sanctuary, Hemis National Park and the wildlife-protected area in the Kargil district.
During the meeting, the stress was laid on early de-notification/realignment of wildlife protected areas in the Changthang region and registration of their business units, including guest houses, tourist camps, restaurants etc. The meeting also discussed the issues of camps demolitions at Pangong Lake and its adjacent areas in past years.
Reacting to the issues apprised by the public representatives from UT Ladakh, the concerned high-level officers from the Union Ministry of Forest, Environment and Climate Change assured due consideration and redressal of the issues at the earliest on a priority basis.
