KATRA, Oct 28: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi (SMVD) Narayana Superspeciality Hospital, Kakryal, on the eve of International Infection Prevention Week (IIPW) 2023, organized the 2nd Inter-hospital Nurses Quiz.
This year, 13 teams from various hospitals in Jammu and Delhi-NCR participated in the event. This included teams from SMVDNSH Kakryal, GMC-Jammu, ASCOMS-Jammu, Command Hospital-Udhampur, 166 MH Satwari-Jammu, GMC Kathua, Maternity & Child Hospital-Jammu, Narayana Hospital-Gurugram and Narayana Dharamshila Hospital Delhi.
In a very closely contested quiz, there were 3 joint winners – SMVDNSH Kakryal, GMC-Jammu and Narayana Hospital Gurugram. The 1st and 2nd runners up were teams from Maternity & Child Hospital, Jammu and 166 MH Satwari, respectively. Team from Command Hospital Udhampur was given the consolation prize.
IIPW is an annual observance to remind the Healthcare workers, professionals and the public of the role everyone plays in infection prevention. IIPW 2023 was celebrated at SMVDNSH by organizing week long events on this year’s theme, “Celebrating the Fundamentals of Infection Prevention”.
As the first day of IIPW coincided with the International Handwashing Day (15th Oct), HICC organized 2 events for local school children. The first event was organized at Government High School, Sirah (Reasi) and the second one at DPS Kakryal, and students were taught the correct technique of hand washing.
HICC also organized a seminar on “Infection Prevention – a few important aspects” the guest speaker for this which included Lt Col Manish Paul from MH Satwari, Dr (Prof) Dipender Kaur from ASCOMS and Dr (Major) Manish Ranjan from AIIMS Jammu. Major General Ashish Das (Commandant, Command Hospital Jammu) was the chief guest of the function.
The celebration ended with the prize distribution to the winners of various competitions and the Nurses Quiz. Speaking on the occasion, HICC Chairman and Clinical Director Dr JP Singh said that IIPW is an important week in the hospital calendar to re-enforce and re-emphasize the importance of infection prevention amongst HCW and the public.
