REASI, July 22: A workshop on Vascular Access in Oncology was organized by the Oncology Department of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Hospital, Kakryal (Katra).
Leading oncologists of Jammu region including Dr Abhinav Choudhary (Consultant Surgical Oncology), Dr Paras Khanna (Surgical Oncologist) and Dr Rajeev Saini (Medical Oncologist) spoke at the workshop. Dr Gurjit Singh, former HoD CTVS Department (GMC, Jammu) was the guest of honor on the occasion.
Speaking to reporters, Dr Abhinav Choudhary (Chief Surgical Oncologist, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Hospital) explained that chemotherapy given via peripheral veins is extremely damaging to the veins, causing serious complications such as extravasation and repeated sessions of chemotherapy leads to tremendous discomfort to the patients.
“Therefore, modern devices such as Chemoports have been introduced to minimize such issues. Chemoport is an implant that can be safely inserted underneath the skin and can be used indefinitely for administering chemotherapy,” he said, adding, the procedure is being done at Naryana Hospital absolutely free of cost under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
