KATRA, Apr 10: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi (SMVD) Narayana Superspeciality Hospital has proved their clinical expertise in cardiac care gain by saving a 75-year-old male from a complex heart condition using minimal invasive intervention called left main bifurcation stenting.
The man hailing from Rajouri was brought to Narayana Hospital with complaint of chest pain. The patient had earlier undergone coronary angiography and was diagnosed with double vessel disease with critical left main involvement. He was advised CABG at the earlier hospital where he got tested himself.
The cardiology department of Narayana Hospital under Dr Sushant Kumar (Senior Consultant Cardiologist) did a thorough evaluation of the patient again. A CTVS consultation for CABG was done. It was identified that he had very poor Left Ventricle function which further increases the risk involved with the surgery itself. However in this case, apart from the heart condition he was suffering from multiple co-morbidities like renal dysfunction, COPD (a type of lung pathology) which further increases his risk for CABG Surgery. Further, his age was also not on his side.
Dr Sushant decided to explore options beyond CABG surgery which includes Complex Coronary Interventions, Minimal Invasive CABG, Medical Management and others. Meanwhile, the patient continued to have chest pain despite trials of antianginals. A multidisciplinary heart team approach was formed which included Dr Sushant Kumar-Senior cardiologist, Dr Sumit Modi- Senior CTVS surgeon, Dr Deepak Sharma- Senior Nephrologist and Dr Triputi Modi heading Anaesthesia team.
After detailed discussion within themselves and with the patient’s relatives, the team of doctors suggested left main bifurcation stenting. The Patient underwent angioplasty with stent placement into left main and LAD (left anterior descending artery) successfully after which his haemodynamics improved. The patient also felt a drastic relief from pain. Patient was discharged on the 3rd day of the surgery.”
