Narco module busted, heroin worth Rs 50 cr seized

Srinagar, May 24: The J&K Police today said to have busted a narco module in Kupwara by recovering Heroin worth Rs 50 Crore.
The police said that the module was on the radar of the forces for the past three weeks and more chains and links related to the case will be identified during the investigation.
Addressing media persons, Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Kupwara Dr GV Sundeep said that the narco module was in close contact with Pakistan based operatives.
He said that the accused nabbed was tasked to smuggle drugs into Valley to extend financial support to the militant outfits in Kashmir.
SSP who was accompanied by top police officials said that the module was under forces radar for last some time following which few suspected places were also searched and on the Sunday evening police nabbed the main accused.
“The accused has been arrested along with a huge consignment of 8 kilograms of heroin having a market value of Rs 50 crore,” he said.
The police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case and more arrests and links of this chain are expected to be identified
While talking about the infiltration, the SSP said this year infiltration has been negligible, “but there are continuous attempts made to send drugs,” he said.
He also said that 32 FIRs have been registered in NDPS acts in which around 40-45 accused people have been arrested this year so far while adding that in all these cases a total of 28 Kgs of heroin worth Rs 129 Crore has been recovered.
