JAMMU, Jan 6: Police arrested a narcotic smuggler along with 13.5 grams of heroin worth several thousands from Toph Sherkhania bridge, falling under the jurisdiction of Talab Tillo police post.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Talab Tillo police post laid a naka near Toph Sherkhania bridge and signaled an Tata Indica car bearing registration number JK02R-9409 coming from Akhnoor to Jammu.
As the driver accelerated the vehicle and escaped from the spot, the cops smelled of something fishy and chased and intercepted the vehicle near some distance from the naka point.
During checking, police recovered 13.5 grams heroin worth several thousands from the possession of the driver and arrested him.
The accused a driver by profession has been identified as Romesh Singh alias Chotu, son of Amar Singh, a resident of Thathar Paloura.
He had brought the consignment from the neighbouring State and was about to deliver it among the youths especially students in his area to make them drug addicts, but police arrested him and thwarted his nefarious designs.
A case under FIR Number 6/16 under Section 8/21 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against the accused at Nowabad police station and investigation started.
Police team headed by Incharge Talab Tillo police post SI Rahul Mahajan made the arrest under the supervision of SHO Nowabad Inspector Ravinder Rakwal, SDPO West Sandeep Choudhary, SP City Shiv Kumar Singh Chouhan and SSP Jammu Uttam Chand.
