Narco smuggler nabbed with 211 kgs poppy straw

UDHAMPUR, Dec 2: The police foiled a narcotics smuggling bid by recovering a huge quantity of psychotropic substance ‘poppy straw’ and held one person with 211 kgs of poppy straw at Jakhani, on National Highway in Udhampur today.
An official spokesman said that amid ongoing drive against drug trafficking and substance abuse, a police team of Police Station Udhampur led by SHO Raghuvir Singh while during naka checking at Jakhani, on National Highway, stopped one vehicle (Truck), bearing Registration Number HP73B- 2204 for checking which was coming from Srinagar towards Jammu.
In the process of search, eight bags having total net quantity of 211 kgs filled with poppy straw were recovered from the truck.
On preliminary inquiry, the driver disclosed his identity as Mohd. Hanief, son of Haider Ali, hailing from village Toli, in district Chamba, Himachal Pradesh.
The accused person was arrested on the spot, while vehicle and contraband seized.
In this connection, a case FIR No. 476/2024 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act was registered in Police Station Udhampur. Further investigation was in progress.
