JAMMU, Feb 23: Peer Mitha police seized brown sugar worth several lakhs and nabbed a narcotic smuggler.
Addressing a press conference, SP City Shiv Kumar Singh Chouhan said that, on specific information regarding smuggling of brown sugar from Srinagar to Jammu, police team from Peer Mitha police station led by SHO SI Mashkoor Ahmed Giri raised a naka near DC Office Chowk this afternoon.
The police team intercepted a person on suspicions grounds and during his checking, police recovered 16 grams of brown sugar worth several lakhs and one foil paper roll from his possession, he added.
The accused has been identified as Nayeem Ahmed Akhoon, son of Ghulam Mohudin Akhoon of Chatabal, Srinagar.
SP further disclosed that the accused was bringing the consignment of brown sugar from Srinagar to handover the same to his coworkers in Jammu and to dodge the police, the person elevated from vehicle and started moving on foot.
The police team after tracking the person for long time finally nabbed him and recovered the brown sugar from his possession, he said, adding with the arrest of the accused, the active cops of Peer Mitha police station have thwarted the smuggling of brown sugar.
A case under FIR number 15/15 under Section 8/21 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Peer Mitha police station and investigation started.
DySP City Perbeet Singh was also present during the press conference.
