RAMBAN, Oct 10: The police foiled an attempt to smuggle about 500 gms of charas and arrested one person in this connection in Ramban area today.
Official sources said that under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ Ramban police successfully thwarted a narcotics smuggling attempt and seized 32 chhalis of charas. The incident unfolded during routine vehicle checking at Shan naka at Ramban.
During the checking, the police party stopped an auto/ load carrier bearing registration number JK 17A-4263, which was driven by an individual travelling from Srinagar towards Jammu.
Upon questioning, the driver identified himself as Farooq Ahmed, son of Gulam Mohd Sheikh, resident of Bagger, tehsil Assar, district Doda. During checking of the vehicle, the police discovered 32 challis of charas, weighing approximately 500-600 grams.
A case FIR No. 251 of 2024, under section 8/20 of the NDPS Act, has been registered at Police Station Ramban. The accused has been taken into custody, and the contraband has been seized. Investigation is underway to unravel connection/ network associated with this illegal activity.
