Narrow escape for BJP leader as militants snatch car

SRINAGAR, Apr 11: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader had close shave when militants snatched his vehicle in South Kashmir district of Pulwama last evening but let him off.
Militants last evening snatched Santro car of BJP district president for Pulwama, Gulzar Ahmad Nengroo of Prichoo , bearing registration number JK02T 5020 when he was on his way to home from an election campaign for Anantnag constituency for the BJP candidate.
SHO, Pulwama, Reyaz Ahmad, told Excelsior that Nengroo was on his way to home when he was stopped by two gun men at village Gongu on Srinagar-Pulwama road last evening. He said that one of the militants was carrying an AK-47 rifle while another had no weapon as per the statement of the BJP leader.
The SHO said that the BJP leader was rescued by a police party that rushed to the spot after he informed police from the Gongu village where his car was snatched by militants.
Police today recovered his vehicle outside the Higher Secondary School Ratnipora in Pulwama. The vehicle was thoroughly frisked by the police for any explosive material. The vehicle had run out of petrol and militants had left it there.
Police have registered a case (FIR 76/14 392 RPC and 7/20 Indian Arms Act) and are investigating it. The terror stricken BJP leader is without security.
In the meantime, security forces today recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition from forests of Sopore in North Kashmir during a search operation.
Army’s 27-Rashtriya Rifles of counter insurgency Kilo Force and Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police on specific information conducted searches in the General forest area of Kwalo forests in Sopore today.
Security forces recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition during the searches of the forests which militants had concealed there.
The arms and ammunition include two AK-47 rifles, 2 AK magazines, 60 rounds of AK ammunition, two pistols, seven magazines, seven rounds of pistol ammunition, two hand grenades and one radio set.
