National Art Festival begins at JU

JAMMU, Mar 25: A week long National Art Festival was inaugurated by Prof  Deshbandhu Gupta, Dean Academic Affairs and  officiating  Vice Chancellor, University of  Jammu,  in presence of  C S Setty, Administrator, Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi, here today.
The programme was presided over by Prof Poonam Choudhary, I/ C Principal, Institute of Music & Fine Arts, Jammu & Director, Centre of Studies in Museology, University of Jammu.
The programme has been jointly organized by Institute of Music & Fine Arts (IMFA), University of Jammu and Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi. Fifty Artists- Painters and Sculptors from all over India are participating in the Art Festival of its kind in Jammu where they would display their art during the camp.
Some of the artists like Prof Anil Naik from J J School of Art, Mumbai; Prof Surinder Jagtap, Raheja School of Art, Mumbai and Prof Dilip Mitra from Kala Bhavan, Santiniketan, West Bengal,   would also give live demonstrations to the artist community as well the general public.
Welcoming the guests, Prof Poonam Choudhary said that Jammu is historically famous for its Basohli Art/ Pahari Miniature Paintings.  She said that this opportunity would prove to be fruitful in respect of the interaction between the art communities of the country. She further added that this festival would help in promoting art awareness among the masses including the business circles who can promote art activities through their resources.
S C Shetty, Administrator, Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, said that the objective of Lalit Kala is to promote art particularly among the new generation of all disciplines of visual art. He said that the Festival would provide an opportunity to the faculty members and students of IMFA with the established artists of other states of the country in this unique event.
Prof Deshbandhu in his address said that the artists are the blessed and fine creatures who have a sensibility of high concentration to ponder over the issues and cone out with creative ideas and creations. He said that art removes negativities present in a man and thus make him refined. He said that this event would prove to be a milestone in the field of art of Jammu region.
