JAMMU, Mar 31: National Book Trust India, in collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts & Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, organized a two- day workshop at K L Saigal Hall to develop bi-lingual books from English to Dogri and English to Kashmiri during ongoing Tawi Sahitya Lok Utsav Jammu.
Dwijendra Kumar, Assistant Editor looking after Dogri and Kashmiri languages at National Book Trust India coordinated the workshop. During the inaugural session, he said that translation of children literature in regional languages is the necessity of time and NBT is stressing upon the revival of ancient old concept of storytelling to create awareness about nature and our surroundings among the children to groom them into good and responsible citizens. Such workshops are important as in addition to translation the writers involved therein get an added value for creating at their own also, he added.
During the workshop, Dr Manoj Heer, Dr Sheetal Devi, Dr Sonika Jasrotia, Dr Radha Rani and Bharti translated ten children books from English to Dogri whereas eminent Kashmiri, Hindi writer and translator Vijay Wali, Pyare Hatash, R L Jowhar, Rinku Koul and Tahir translated ten books from English to Kashmiri. As per NBT, these books will soon be published and made available for the readers of both languages.
Prof Lalit Magotra and Rajeshwar Singh ‘Raju’ were resource persons for Dogri whereas Rattan Lal Shant and R L Talashi, performed the duties of resource persons for Kashmiri language.
While presenting vote of thanks, Dwijendra Kumar hoped that such creative efforts will become a regular feature in future also from time to time thus fulfilling the mission of NBT to reach to maximum readers of all regional languages .
