JAMMU, June 11: National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (NCSK) today asked district administration Jammu to enhance wages and take measures to ease extra workload of the civic workers enabling them work more efficiently. Member NCSK, Vijay Kumar, who chaired a meeting of the district administration here today, reviewed the socio- economic and educational status of Safai Karamcharis besides taking stock of rehabilitation measures being taken up for the community. Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Simrandeep Singh and senior officers of Police, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Health, Information, Social Welfare besides representatives of Safai Karamcharis were present in the meeting. He asked for strict adherence to the revised guidelines of Government of India for regulating and improving the working conditions and implementation of welfare schemes meant for welfare of this under privileged community. Kumar particularly stressed on the revised guidelines of GOI and asked the concerned agencies to thoroughly go through these and make provisions for establishing housing colonies, better education facilities and medical facilities for these people. “The civic workers are the only person who keep our cities and towns clean and hygienic protecting us from hazardous health troubles so they should be taken care of in all respects”, he added. He highlighted various Central Government schemes meant for the Safai Karamcharis under which they are provided financial assistance for establishing industrial units and social security cover in case of death or injury on duty. He also asked for bringing causal labours under the ambit of such schemes. In this regard, he underlined the need for raising awareness among the community about the welfare and development programmes envisaging their socio-economic emancipation. Taking feedback about the implementation of recommendations of the Commission issued during the last meeting, he asked for building sheds and change rooms with all basic facilities for the civic workers. He asked the district administration to send regular feedback reports about the status of implementation of recommendations and welfare schemes to the NCSK for further submission to PM. Vijay Kumar also had a detailed interaction with the Safai Karamcharis about their job profile and other issues.
