JAMMU, Oct 24: Two days national conference of Maharashtra Society of Agricultural Economics on the theme “Impact of Agricultural Technologies in Enhancing Growth and Income”, organized by Directorate of Extension, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu, in collaboration with Division of Agricultural Economics and ABM, concluded today at Main Campus Chatha.
Dr Pradeep K Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu, was the chief guest on the occasion, Dr Prakash Mahindre, president, Maharashtra Society of Agricultural Economics was the guest of honour and Dr R G Deshmukh, Secretary was the special guest.
Speaking on the theme of the conference, Dr Pradeep K Sharma described the role of assessing the impact of agricultural technologies and programmes being implemented for the welfare of the farmers. He further suggested that farmers success stories in one part of the country should be documented for replication in other similar agro-climatic zones.
Earlier, Dr R K Arora, Associate Director Extension & Incharge KVKs, presented the welcome address. Dr Jyoti Kachroo, Head, Division of Agril. Economics and ABM, presented the technical report.
More than 200 delegates/scholars from different parts of the country attended the conference for sharing their research findings on important themes like impact of agricultural research and extension, economics of application of innovative methods in agriculture & integrated systems of management, New Dimensions of Agricultural Credit, Cooperation and Marketing and impact of farmers’ interventions, including success stories.
Ten lead papers on different themes of the conference were presented by eminent agricultural scientists, including Dr Alka Singh, Professor, ICAR-IARI, New Delhi, Dr K B Patil, Vice President, Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd., Jalgaon, Dr V G Nithya, Visiting Scientist, National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Hyderabad. Besides, more than 135 oral and 180 poster presentations were delivered by the delegates during the conference.
The Journal of Maharashtra Society of Agricultural Economics was also released during the valedictory function. Officers of the University including Dr. TAS Ganai, Director Education, Dr. Deepak Kher, Director Planning & Monitoring, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Dean Faculty of Basic Sciences were also present during the ceremony. The valedictory function ended with the vote of thanks presented by Dr. Pawan Kumar Sharma, Scientist (Agril. Economics), organising secretary.
