National Conference of Consortium against Rabies begins at GMC Jammu

JAMMU, Sept 28: The 12th Annual National Conference of Consortium against Rabies (CARCON 24) was inaugurated today in GMC Jammu.
The conference is being hosted by the Post Graduate Department of Community Medicine, GMC Jammu and the theme of the conference is “ Tackling Rabies: The One Health Way”.
Dr Ashutosh Gupta, Principal and Dean of GMC Jammu, was the chief guest at the inaugural function. Besides, Dr Ashutosh, other who did the lamp lighting included CAR president Dr Rajnish, CAR honorary secretary Dr Anurag and organizing secretary Dr Rajiv Kumar Gupta.
Dr Rajiv K Gupta emphasized that today being World Rabies Awareness Day is indeed a good omen for CARCON-24. “The aim on this day should be to focus on overcoming barriers in Rabies management, fostering cross-sectional collaborations, promoting innovations, and increasing public awareness to eliminate rabies by 2030,” he added.
An information booklet was also unveiled on the current guidelines on prevention of Rabies. The academic and scientific programs saw active participation from several professionals, including Dr Sunil K Raina, Prof and Head of Community Medicine Dr RP GMC Tanda, Dr Rajiv K Gupta Prof and Head Community Medicine GMC Jammu.
Dr GS Saini (HoD Paediatrics, GMC Jammu), Dr Ashok Sharma (HoD Ophthalmology GMC Jammu), Dr Ravinder Gupta (HoD Paediatrics ASCOMS Jammu), Dr Ratnakar Sharma (HoD Surgery GMC Jammu), Dr Sanjay Sharma (Associate Prof Surgery, GMC Jammu) and Dr Amita Aggarwal (Senior Gynecologist, Hindu Rao Hopsital & NDMC College, New Delhi).
During the post lunch session, scientific sessions for oral paper presentation was concluded in which more than 50 papers were presented. The key highlight of oral presentation was by Padmashri Dr Omesh Bharti who highlighted the role of Rabies immunoglobulin in treating snake-bite.
