JAMMU, Mar 25: Second two-day “National Conference on Mathematics” being organized by Department of Mathematics, Government Gandhi Memorial Science College, Jammu, in collaboration with Directorate College Development Council, University of Jammu, began today at Department of Mathematics, Science College, Jammu.
Eminent mathematicians and scholars from within the State and from across the Country have arrived to attend this annual event in the host institution.
The conference started with the lighting of traditional lamp by chief guest, Dr Tariq Ahmad Kawoosa, Director Colleges J&K Higher Education Department along with Nodal Principal, GGM Science College, Dr Satinder Singh, guests of honour, Prof (Dr) Satya Deo Tripathi, senior scientist HRI Allahabad, Prof Dr S Ponnusamy from IIT Chennai, organizing secretary of the conference, Dr Sunil Gupta and HoD Mathematics, Prof Dileep Raina.
Nodal Principal, Dr Satinder Singh in his welcome address emphasized the need of holding periodically such programs in an institution of higher learning besides regular class room teaching.
Dr Kawoosa in his address expressed his satisfaction about the role of functioning of this heritage institution in conformity with the laid UGC Norms and National policy on higher Education.
Dr S Ponnusamy in his address encouraged the students and the research scholars to avail various opportunities available from different funding agencies while Dr Satya Deo Tripathi delivered key note address on the Topic “Topological Combinatorics”.
Mathematicians of repute Dr SD Sharma from Central University Jammu; Dr BA Zargar from University of Kashmir; Dr Dinesh Khurana from PU Chandigarh; Dr JK Prajapat from Central University Rajasthan; Dr BS Komal from MIET Jammu; Dr Parvinder Singh from Central University Jammu; Dr PK Sharma from DAV College Jalandhar; Dr K S Charak from University of Jammu and other eminent mathematicians and scholars, faculty members and the students, from SMVDU, BGSBU, Jammu University attended the conference.
Organizing secretary of the conference, Dr Sunil Gupta spoke about the theme of the conference; faculty member, Dr Shally Gupta conducted the proceedings while the vote of thanks was presented by Prof Dileep Raina.
The Lecture deliberations, talk by the invited mathematicians and poster paper presentation by scholars and students lasted for the day till 5.30 pm.
