National Doctors’ Day celebrated across J&K, Ladakh

JAMMU, July 1: National Doctors’ Day was celebrated today with great enthusiasm across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir with people expressing gratitude towards the doctors for their invaluable contribution in saving lives during Coronavirus pandemic.
The Day was observed today by J&K State Legal Services Authority (SLSA) in conjunction with the theme of the day “Lessen the mortality of COVID-19” under the guidance of Chief Justice Gita Mittal, Patron-in-Chief J&K SLSA and supervision of Justice Rajesh Bindal, Executive Chairman, J&K SLSA.
The day was commemorated by organizing an Online Talk and Commemoration Program-me in association with Jammu & Kashmir Judicial Academy in recognition of commitment of Medical Heroes in healing communities and providing selfless service and health care.
The Talk Programme invited participation of Legal Services Authorities at District level, Judicial Officers, Retainer Lawyers and Para Legal Volunteers of the UTs of J&K and Ladakh.
Dr Sanjay Kumar Bhasin, Professor Surgery, GMC Jammu, Dr S Muhammad Salim Khan, Professor and Head Department of Community Medicine, GMC Srinagar and Dr Tsering Morup, Anaesthetist Consultant, S N Hospital Leh were the resource persons in the Talk Programme. They highlighted the roles and responsibilities entrusted on the medical profession.
The proceedings of the programme were coordinated by M K Sharma, Member Secretary, J&K SLSA and Rajeev Gupta, Director, J&K Judicial Academy.
In his message on National Doctor’s Day, Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan expressed gratitude to the doctors’ fraternity who have always remained at the forefront in the fight against the deadly Coronavirus without caring for their precious lives in the line of duty due to which the rate of recovery of COVID-19 cases have improved considerably. The CEC said that people owe them for their uncompromising attitude towards humanity in these testing times and their selfless services will always be remembered.
To mark the occasion, Inner Wheel Club (IWC) Jammu Tawi honoured Dr Renu Sharma, Director Health Services (DHS) Jammu for her tireless service along with her team during the Corona pandemic. President IWC Jammu Tawi, Pooja Malhotra presented saplings of Plumeria trees to Dr Renu Sharma for the premises of her office and offered honorary membership of Innerwheel which is the largest self funded women organization of the world working for the welfare of the society. IWC members, Meena Jaggi, Nidhi Mahajan and Jassi were also present.
On the occasion of Doctors’ Day, office bearers of the J&K Society of Consultant Doctors (JKSCD) took the opportunity to offer sincere felicitations to all doctors’ working tirelessly in their pursuit to heal, help and mitigate suffering. “JKSCD is, however, dismayed that the posts earmarked for senior consultants are only for some limited specialities since its creation many years ago which, JKSCD believes was an irrational process in the first place since it did not take into consideration a proper procedure involving caderisation and allocation of a genuine number of senior consultant posts into each speciality,” it said in statement and appealed LG G C Murmu to kindly look into the matter.
On Doctors’ Day, Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) paid rich tributes to all the doctors who lost their precious lives across the globe while fighting Novel Coronavirus. President DAK, Dr Suhail Naik said, “We feel extremely proud of our fraternity who have saved so many lives and are dedicated to their job. During this pandemic our doctors sustained all emergency Non-COVID-19 services including maternal and child health, immunization, management of heart attacks and strokes, emergency operations”.
General secretary DAK, Dr Owais H Dar suggested the Government to increase health budget and expand infrastructure so that such viral pandemics can’t affect management of patients suffering from non-communicable diseases like trauma, diabetes, kidney failure, heart failure, strokes.
In connection with Doctor’s Day, a short but an impressive function was organized at CHC Kandi (Koteranka) in which the doctor fraternity of Block Kandi of Rajouri district under the leadership of Block Medical Officer Kandi Dr Iqbal Malik decided to purchase and donate an Ambulance to CHC Kandi for providing the hassle free service to the patients.
Dr Farooq Mir (Medical Officer, CHC Kandi) handed over a cheque amounting to Rs 50,000 to the BMO Kandi on the Spot. Other Medical Officers and paramedics also contributed for donation of Ambulance. Others who attended the function were Dr Ruksan Jabeen, Dr Zia, Dr Ajaz, Dr Jabeen and Ayoub Lone (CHO).
Bhartiya Janta Party, Jammu and Kashmir saluted the doctors’ remarkable and selfless contribution in curbing the coronavirus pandemic on the occasion of Doctors’ Day. In a simple function at Primary Health Center (PHC), Bahu Fort, Rajeev Charak, Incharge Good Governance Centre State Co-ordination Department BJP along with Anuradha Charak J&K vice president of BJP and Sanjeev Singh Manhas, additional treasurer BJYM said, “India salutes our doctors who are at the forefront of a spirited fight against COVID-19.” They all honoured the staff of PHC Bahu Fort. Dr Dimple Bhagat, Dr Geetu Dutta and Dr Neha Gupta along with paramedical staff were presented on the occasion.
