Recently National School Games were held at Jammu. The function was inaugurated by Jahangir Mir Sports Minister J&K State and in concluding function Director General Sports J&K State was the chief guest. The department Youth Services and Sports involved all its field functionaries working at the grass root level from PET’s, PEMs to lecturers physical education in order to make the event a great success. DG Sports issued orders for the deputation of all field functionaries from far off and near by Districts of Jammu Div to report at the venue without caring for their boarding and lodging facilities. In compliance with the order, hundred of employees from the Sports Department reported at Jammu on the day of inauguration till the closing of the tournaments. No TA, DA, to and fro charges were paid to the employees who were forced to spend all the expenses from their own. It punched a big hole in their pockets. Was it a show of strength for political gaiety or coronation ceremony of our Sports Minister ? The whole show was tizzy and ended in a bamboozle way.
Organizing National Games in our State at the winter capital is a welcome step. Such programmes shall pave a way for understanding our composite culture, the brotherhood of man and above all strengthening spirit of our national integration. But the organizers must be realistic and fair in the conduct of such events. They should in no way unnecessarily burden the pockets of their employees who were made to ‘pay’ just for political games of their ‘masters’. Hope the authorities at the helm of affairs shall issue necessary instructions to all DDOs for the early redressal of monetary claims of employees without further delay and loss of time.
