JAMMU, Apr 20: A national-level Baisakhi event that was jointly organized by the Master Sansar Chand Baru Memorial Trust and the Tourism Department was held here today.
Padma Shri awardees Mohan Singh Slathia and Ramalo Ram graced the occasion along with Maj Gen. G S Jamwal and Brig V S Dhemian.
Renowned Kathak dancer Gauri Diwakar delivered a mesmerizing performance, while an engaging Dogri play Kunju Chanchalo was staged by Jakson.
A special on-the-spot painting camp brought together eminent artists from seven states, celebrating the spirit of unity in diversity through creative expression.
Anuradha Rishi, president of the Trust, extended heartfelt gratitude to all dignitaries, participants and supporters.
She thanked Dr Savita Wazir, Dr Ritu Singh of the Royal Dogra Family for their constant encouragement and support in promoting Dogra heritage.
Speaking on the occasion, Rishi emphasized the Trust’s mission to empower underprivileged children and youth from remote areas of Jammu and Kashmir through cultural engagement.
“We are committed to connecting the youth to their roots. Art has the power to transform lives, inspire humanity and build a progressive society,” she said.
Rishi also highlighted the enduring legacy of Master Sansar Chand Baru, a pioneer in Pahari miniature painting and founder of the Dogra Museum, whose vision continues to guide the Trust.
Padma Shri Ramalo Ram and Mohan Singh both lauded the festival, underscoring the need for continued efforts to preserve and promote Dogra art and heritage.
The event concluded on a high note with Inspector Rakesh Singh Jamwal delighting the audience with a heartfelt song, encapsulating the festive spirit.
Among others who attended the event included Seetharaman, Amit Anand, Vijay Anand, Sonam Sikarwar, Sharmila Sharma, Suman Dogre, Rakhi Kumar and Akram Khan.
Students from DPS Jammu also actively took part in the festivities.
