JAMMU, Dec 22: To mark the 133rd birth anniversary of mathematical Genius Srinivasa Ramanujan, National Mathematics Day was celebrated by various educational institutions across Jammu and Kashmir.
Department of Mathematics, School of Sciences, Cluster University of Jammu celebrated the Day by organizing a students’ conference on the theme “Indian Legends in Mathematics” and poster presentation on the theme “Applications of Mathematics”. Prof Bhopinder Singh, Dean Academic Affairs of Cluster University of Jammu was the chief guest, Dr. Sunil Gupta, Controller of Examinations, J&K BOPEE and Associate Professor in Mathematics was the resource person of this Conference. About 80 students from various colleges participated in poster competition.
SCERT J&K, Divisional office Jammu celebrated National Mathematics Day under the directions of Prof Veena Pandita, Director SCERT J&K and overall supervision of Joint Director, H R Pakhroo, wherein faculty members paid tributes to the great mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. Surinder Kumar, Field Advisor (Mathematics), SCERT Jammu, highlighted and discussed about life, struggles and achievements of Ramanujan. Faculty members commemorated the legendary Indian mathematician for his extraordinary contribution to mathematical analysis, number theory, infinite series and continued fractions.
The Day was celebrated with full zeal and enthusiasm by Department of Mathematics, Government P G College for Women, Gandhi Nagar (Jammu). In an online orientation conducted on Zoom, Dr Anupama Gupta, HoD Mathematics gave a detailed description and analysis about the life and work of Srinivasa Ramanujan and shared video on magic square of Ramanujan. Principal of the college Dr (Prof) Sangita Nagari put forward her words of wisdom on this day.
Government Degree College (GDC) Akhnoor organized a day-long students’ conference in connection with National Mathematics Day. Dr Pawan Kumar Sharma, organizing secretary of the conference, enlightened the students with his views on the importance of Mathematics in other branches of science. Dr D N Sharma delivered technical lecture during the conference which was graced by Principal of the College, Dr Namarta.
To celebrate the Day, a programme was organized at GDC Marh. Prof Aekta Gupta was chief guest while ZEO Marh was the guest of the programme. Resource person, Asif Javeed, Lecturer in Mathematics, spoke about the “Basics of mathematics with why one should do mathematics and how should mathematics be done”. A poster making competition and a debate competition was also organized on the occasion.
The Science Club in collaboration with Department of Mathematics of Government PG College Rajouri celebrated the Day by organizing a webinar in which resource person Prof U V Balakrishnan from Sharda University (UP) delivered a talk on the topic “A peep into life and works of Ramanujan”. Principal of College, Prof (Dr) Shakeel Ahmed Raina, who himself is a Mathematician, also gave a detailed talk on role of Mathematics as mother discipline.
A Maths Olympiad for students of classes 9 to 12 was organized by Mendhar Gunners at Mukaddas Degree College on the occasion of National Mathematics Day. On the occasion, a lecture was also conducted for students on various scholarship schemes for higher education sponsored by the Government of India. Speaking to the students, Mendhar Garrision Commander asked students to seek inspiration from Ramanujam’s works and strive towards excelling in all spheres of education for a brighter future.
GDC Jindrah celebrated “National Mathematics Day” by organizing an online symposium regarding the importance, applications, teaching of Mathematics under the guidance of Professor (Dr) Rajshree Dhar, Principal of the College. Sir Ramanujan’s contributions to the field of Mathematics were also recalled. Students took active participation by speaking on various topics.
Bhartiya Vidya Mandir High School, Udhampur celebrated the Day by organizing different competitions like Debate, Model making and poem recitation in which students from class 1st to 10th participated. At the end of programme, Principal Renu Sharma gave a motivation lecture to students on Mathematics.
