National Meet of Research Scholars in Mathematical Sciences begins at JU

JAMMU, Dec 8: The five-day National Meet of Research Scholars in Mathematical Sciences, organized by Department of Statistics, University of Jammu, began here today.
The programme has been initiated and sponsored by Science and Engineering Research Board, DST, Government of India, to impart training and motivate young Ph D scholars working in the areas of Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research and Theoretical Computer Sciences.
During inaugural session, Prof  Deshbandhu,  Director  College Development Council, JU  stressed on the need for organizing such events, which would go a long way in the development and progress of department as well as the students and scholars. He
deliberated about the need of imparting research training to young researchers and exposing them to state of the art in various areas of mathematical sciences and to introduce them to research methodology.
Prof Peeyush Chandra,  Department of Mathematics and Statistics, IIT, Kanpur, who is also member of Program Advisory Committee of DST for Mathematical Sciences and Prof   Satya Deo, National Academy of Sciences  Senior Scientist, Harish Chandra Research Institute, Allahabad, advocated  about the need to impart research training to young researchers through intensive interaction with leading  researchers  and expert Mathematicians/ Statisticians  to handle research problems in more scientific ways.    Nearly 75 scholars from across the country are participating in the five day meet.
Vote of thanks was given by Head of Department of Statistics, Prof Rahul Gupta.
Prof Dalip Singh Jamwal, Prof V D Singh, Prof B C Sharma, Prof Pankaj Srivastava, Dr Romesh Kumar, and faculty member of the University of Jammu were present on the occasion.
In the two pre lunch sessions,  Prof Satya Deo, HRI, Allahabad and Prof Asish Sengupta, ISI, Kolkatta delivered their lectures on Research in Mathematical Sciences followed by two post lunch sessions where participants from the field of Mathematics and Statistics made their presentations  and  interacted  with the experts on ways of improving their research output and presentation techniques.
