JAMMU, Mar 28: S N Acharya, Senior Photographic Officer of the Jammu based Public Relations Unit of the Ministry of Defence, has been conferred `Special Mention Award’ in the Professional Category of National Photo Awards for the year 2011-12.
The award was conferred to Mr Acharya by Speaker of Lok Sabha Meira Kumar in presence of Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tiwari during an impressive award presentation ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi today.
The National Photo Award was instituted by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India in 2010.
The award winning photographs in the professional category, clicked by Mr Acharya, included a photograph on tree plantation in the world’s highest and coldest battlefield Siachen Glacier and another one taken in the Mushkoh valley of Drass sector, the second coldest permanently inhabited place in the world.
These photographed had been clicked during the Army’s ‘Green Siachen’ campaign.
SN Acharya being the only Photographic Officer from the Ministry of Defence to cover the entire Northern Command theatre, as well as a part of the Western Command theatre, has vast and varied experience of photo coverage for the Ministry of Defence.
