JAMMU, Oct 21: “National Police Day”- also known as Police Commemoration Day, was observed across Jammu with ceremonial Parades and paying tribute to the Police martyrs.
The day is celebrated every year in the memory and honour of S I Karam Singh and his ten bravehearts of CRPF (1st, 2nd and 3rd Bn) who on 21st Oct 1959, scarified their lives while holding the attack by PLA at Hot Spring in Ladakh at the height of 4681 meters above the sea level.

Impressive functions were organized in all 10 Police Districts of Jammu Province where large number of senior Police Officers, retired police personnel, members of the martyrs’ families and members of civil society participated.
In Jammu, the main function was held at Gulshan Ground Jammu where Anand Jain- Inspector General of Police Jammu Zone, took the salute of the Commemoration Day Parade. GOs of all Jammu based Units, apart from a large number of senior / retired Police Officers, prominent dignitaries/Citizens and media personnel of Jammu also participated in the function.
Anand Jain read out the names of 189 brave martyrs of the country who include martyrs from Police Organizations and PMF like BSF, CRPF, ITBP, CISF, SSB, NCB, NDRF and FS, CD & HG. While lauding the role of brave martyrs, he said J&K Police has been rendering yeoman service to the Nation and the society under most hostile, difficult and challenging circumstances at the cost of their personal safety and comfort.
On this occasion, a blood donation camp was also organized by Police in collaboration with Team Jammu in which some senior Police officers /officials and 10 volunteers of the team Jammu donated blood.
IGP Jammu Zone also interacted with NoK of martyrs. He paid a patient hearing to the grievances of NoKs of Martyrs and assured full support and timely action on the requests submitted by them.
Earlier all the Jammu based GOs assembled at Police Martyrs Memorial at Railway Station where rich tribute were paid to all the martyrs. Prominent among those, who attended the function included; Divisional Commissioner Jammu, and other social and political dignitaries.
Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur, also organized Commemoration Parade in its campus in memory of Police martyrs. ADGP Garib Dass, Director, SKPA Udhampur, took salute of Commemoration Parade and apprised gathering about the history of Commemoration Day.
Garib Dass, alongwith Rajinder Kumar Gupta, Dy Director (Indoor/Trg); Sheikh Zulfkar Azad, Dy Director (Administration); Sukhvir Singh, Dy SP, Asstt Director (Administration/Administrative Officer; Shanker Bhadur, Dy SP, AD(Outdoor) and huge gathering of Staff and Prob Dy SPs/ Upper/Lower/Lady BRTC Course also paid their rich tribute to the Police Martyrs by laying floral wreaths at the Shaheedi Smark.
National Police Day was observed today at Martyrs Memorial District Police Lines Reasi wherein rich tribute were paid to the Police Martyrs. Contingents of Police and Paramilitary forces participated in the Commemoration Day Parade at DPL Reasi wherein Babila Rakwal, Deputy Commissioner Reasi, SSP Reasi Amit Gupta, Neeraj Padyar, Dy Sp Hqrs Reasi; Aijaz Choudhary, DySP DAR DPL Reasi and officers from Army and paramilitary forces paid rich tribute to the Martyrs.
In Poonch, National Police Commemoration Day function was held at DPL Ground where District SSP Poonch Vinay Kumar Sharma read over the names of Martyrs of Police and Paramilitary Forces. The Police Commemoration Day Parade was commanded by Dy SP Mohammad Shafiq, DySP DAR Poonch, Prominent participants included DDC Chairperson Poonch Tazeem Akhter, Commander 93 Brigade Poonch Rajesh Bisht, Additional SP Mushim Ahmed, Dy SP Hqrs Poonch Afrat Hussain, DySP PC Surankote Hamid Ali Banday, DySP Farooq Ahmed, DySP Mohd Ashraf, President State BJP Ravinder Raina, former Deputy Chairman J and K Legislative Council Jahangir Mir, Taj Mir, Adv Mohd Zamaan, Adv Iftakhar Bazmi, BJP District President Rajesh Raina and other prominent citizens of Poonch. The family members of Police Martyrs were also present.
National Police Commemoration Day ceremony was also organized by Ramban police at DPL Ground to pay homage to the martyrs, SSP Ramban Mohita Sharma, read out the names of the Police Martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty in one year. DC Ramban Mussarat Islam, Commandant IR 16TH BN and other Officers graced the occasion along with senior citizens. More than 100 family members of the Police Martyrs across the District attended the function.
