JAMMU: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar today said that enforcement of traffic regulations and awareness regarding road safety measures is essential for preventing road accidents. The Advisor made these comments while inaugurating 31st National Road Safety Week, being observed from today to January 17 across Jammu and Kashmir, at Gulshan Ground here.
Highlighting the importance of National Road Safety Week, the Advisor said that road transport accidents are preventable and it is very much important that awareness programmes are organised with active involvement of youth and school children to prevent such accidents.
Later the Advisor flagged off a Walkathon (Walk for Awareness) regarding Road Safety measures in which school children from both private and Government institutions participated.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Secretary, Transport Department, Asgar Hassan Samoon said that lack of awareness and over speeding are the main causes of accidents. He said that due to this road safety week public will benefit to a large as different programmes will be held over a week like health checkups for drivers, distribution of pamphlets, walkathon, blood donation camps etc to sensitise public about Road Safety measures.
Transport Commissioner, J&K, Owais Ahmed, IGP Traffic, T Namgyal; Director State Motor Garages, Z H Choudhary, Special Secretary, Transport Department, Rahul Sharma, SSP Traffic Jammu Joginder Singh, Additional Secretary Road Safety Council, R K Bhat, Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Jammu Dhanatar Singh, beside a large number of locals and school children from various Government and private educational institutes were present on the occasion.
KATHUA: Motor Vehicle Department organized a Road Safety Awareness Rally-cum-Walkathon to celebrate 31st Road Safety Week. Students from various schools and colleges of Kathua, NCC cadets and volunteers from NGOs participated in the rally, which was flagged off by District Development Commissioner, O P Bhagat from Government College for Women where a program was also organized to sensitize students through various means to make the roads safer. SSP Shridhar Patil was the guest of honour on this occasion. Earlier RTO Kathua, Dr. R K Thappa threw light on the rate of road accident fatalities due to multiple reasons mainly due to non adherence of traffic rules and for not following safe driving measures. He also highlighted the recent amendments in Motor Vehicle Act under which penalties for driving errors were hiked. CPO Uttam Singh, ASP Ramnish Gupta, Principal of Government College for Women, ARTO, faculty members, District Officers, District Traffic Inspectors, students and members of civil society were present in large number during the program.
RAMBAN: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anita Sharma inaugurated Road Safety Week long celebrations here besides flagging off an awareness rally organized by Motor Vehicle Department. ADDC Nawab Din, ACR Harbans Lal, ASP Sanjay Parihar, CMO Dr Janak Raj, Medical Superintendent DH Ramban Dr JP Singh, DSP Ajay Anand, ARTO Shafqat Majeed besides staff members and students of various schools were present on the occasion. The rally was taken out from GHSS Ramban and after passing through the main market finally culminated at same place.
RAJOURI: Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Nazir Sheikh flagged off an awareness rally to observe the week long Road Safety Week. SSP Yougal Manhas, ADC Sher Singh, Additional Superintendent of Police Liaqat Choudhary, ACR Mohammad Ashraf, Deputy Director Planning Bilal Mir, Assistant Regional Transport Officer Inzar Ahmed Rana, Inspector MVD, Rajeev Bhasin and other District Officers were present on the occasion. The rally was taken out from the bus stand and passed through main roads and finally culminated at PWD Dak Bunglow Rajouri. Similar rallies were flagged off by the ADC Nowshera Sukhdev Singh Samyal, ADC Sunderbani Vinod Kumar Behnal, ADC Kotranka Surinder Mohan Sharma and Sub Divisional Magistrate Thanamandi Dr Tanwir Khan.
POONCH: In an endeavour to make roads safe, the Motor Vehicle Department in collaboration with other stakeholders organized a walkathon and motor bike rally to mark the beginning of 31st National Road Safety Week. The march started from Government Girls Higher Secondary School and culminated at Sports Stadium. The walk for safety was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Poonch Rahul Yadav in presence of SSP Poonch Ramesh Kumar Angral, CEO and officers from different departments. In the end, ARTO Poonch Jugal Kishore Sharma presented vote of thanks and urged the people to follow some golden rules of safety and make roads safe and accident free.
DODA: Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) Doda kick started the 31st National Road Safety week with the slogan “Sadak Suraksha-Jeewan Raksha”. The week began with the flagging off of a student rally by the Deputy Commissioner Doda Dr Sagar D Doifode along with SP Operations Doda RP Singh, ARTO Doda, Er Kuldeep Singh, CPO, CEO Doda, DSWO Doda, DySP DAR and Traffic Doda, AO DRDA, MVIs, officials of Information Department, drivers, representatives from driving schools, members from transport unions, police fraternity and civil administration. The rally started from Sports Stadium and culminated at the Community Hall Doda.
REASI: District Sessions Judge Kamlesh Pandit and Deputy Commissioner Indu Kanwal Chib inaugurated week long awareness activities under Road Safety Week in presence of Assistant Regional Transport Officer, Ramesh Samotra at district headquarters. A rally of school children was flagged off by the chief guests. Inspector CS Billowria, Dinesh Singh and employees of Motor Vehicles Department among other district officers were also present at the event.
KISHTWAR: DDC Angrez Singh Rana flagged off “Road Safety Mobile Van” from District Headquarter to spread Road Safety awareness among the masses. Motor Vehicle Inspector Azad Hussain informed that Motor Vehicles Department in collaboration with Traffic Police, educational institutions, Information Department and various other stake holders will conduct various programmes from today to January 17 including free medical checkup camp, awareness programme for commercial drivers, general public, facilitating the traffic rule followers , etc.
LEH: Regional Transport Office (RTO) observes 31st National Road Safety Week campaign on the theme ‘Bringing Change Through Youth’. Transport Commissioner Ladakh Saugat Biswas flagged off the motor rally from Leh Gate. During the weeklong campaign, awareness will be spread on various issues. The week is being observed by Regional Transport Office Ladakh in association with Transport Unions and some NGOs in Leh. Deputy Commissioner Sachin Kumar Vaishya, Regional Transport Officer, Kunzes Angmo, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dr Zaida Bano, Assistant Regional Transport Officer SS Jamwal, Additional SP Suresh Kumar, DySP Traffic Rigzin Sangdup and other concerned officers were present on the occasion.
KARGIL: Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil Feroz Ahmad Khan launched the 31st National Road Safety Week here where an interactive session was held with all the stakeholders on awareness of road safety, effective traffic management, obedience of traffic rules and prevention and reduction of road accidents. Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil Sonam Chosjor, Additional Superintendent of Police Kargil Khalid Amin, Assistant Regional Transport Officer Khadim Hussain, other officers of civil administration and police and representatives of transport unions and transporters were present on the occasion. During the course of the entire week, a host of activities have been planned at different locations by involving all the stakeholders for generating awareness and sensitizing people about safe road usage.
