JAMMU, Feb 28: National Science Day was celebrated with enthusiasm.
Jammu and Kashmir Geo-spatial Data Centre, Survey of India, Jammu today celebrated “National Science Day” by organizing an exhibition at its premises at Survey of India Complex, Golf Course Road, Nagrota. More than two hundred children accompanied by teachers from various schools attended this exhibition. The exhibition was organized under the guidance of Colonel Amardeep Singh, Director, J&K GDC, Survey of India. During the exhibition, Harbir Singh, KS Rana, Neetesh Vishwakarma and Manjeet Singh, Officer Surveyors of the Centre explained the different kinds of maps/digital maps prepared by Survey of India and modern instruments/technology being used for mapping. Ranjeet Singh, Dalbir Singh, Deepak Balotra, Shubh Karan, Rameshwar, Phuntsong Angchuk, Lukesh Kumar, Zafar Iqbal, Shashi Jamwal, Bhanu Pratap and Daman Kumar, Surveyors displayed and explained the use of modern scientific instruments. Krishan Gopal, Ram Pal Sharma, Sanjeev Kumar, Harcharan Singh, Desh Kumar Sharma and Raj Pal Dubey Draughtsmen with Rattan Lai, Survey Assistant displayed various types of maps prepared in Survey of India.
Science Club of Government College of Education, Canal Road organized a series of programme for three days to celebrate the National Science Day. On the first day, students displayed various posters and slogans to make people aware about swine flu and how to keep our environment clean and adopt various safety measures to prevent the attack of the H1N1 virus. Komal Kotwal made a presentation. On the second day, presentations were made by Shikha Sharma and Kanika Sharma. Various documentaries regarding various issues about our environment were screened. Faculty of DIET also participated in the programme. Prof Ajeet Angral, Principal of the college highlighted the importance of these programes. In the second session, Deedar Singh, retd Principal, Roop Chand, environmentalist shared important inputs related to H1N1 virus followed by queries. This session was presided over by Roshan Lal Gupta, Vice Principal, DIET. On the third day, presentations were made by the members of Science Club regarding importance of Science Day. Principal Prof Ajeet Angral, Prof Jyoti Parihar Prof Anil Verma, Prof Radhika Mahajan, Prof Anju Bala, Dr Rupinder Kour and Prof Sunita Gupta were also present.
National College of Education organised inter-college slogan writing and poster making competition on the theme “Role of science in Educational Development” in the college premises here today. Dr Ajit Angral, Principal Government College of Education was a chief guest, while the chairman of the college Vidhi Singh Jamwal, Managing Director Renu Bangroo, Principal, Faculty members, students and participants from various colleges attend the event. Principal NCE Neena Sharma, Principal KC College of Education Dr Shameema Bano and Principal Sai Shyam College of Education Dr Usha Tickoo were the adjudicators of the event. In slogan writing competition Neha Sharma and Anjali Sharma from Calliope College of Education, Jyoti Devi and Lovely from KC Gurukul College of Education, Ramneet Kour and Ajay Kumar from Sai Shyam College of Education, Stanzin Dorjey and Stanzin Yongduf from Vishwa Bharti College of Education and Priyanka Sharma and Anuradha from National College of Education were given first, second, third and consolations prizes respectively, while in poster making competition Stanzin Speldor and Stanzin Chouran of Sai Shyam College of Education, Neha Lalotra and Megha Sharma from MIER College of Education, Poly Sharma and Meenakshi from National College of Education, Apurva Bahu and Rahul Thakur from KC College of Education were given first, second, third and consolation prizes respectively. Dr Ajeet Angral presented trophies to the winners and distributed and certificates of merit among the participants.
A Science Quiz Competition was organized in Dogra College of Education on the occasion of National Science Day. The theme of the quiz was “Application of Science and Technology in the field of Education”. Shefali Sharma, Vice Principal said that the day is being celebrated to widely spread a message about the significance of scientific applications in the daily life of the people. The programme was organized under the guidance of Bela Thakur, Lecturer in Teaching of Science and also the Academic Coordinator of the college. Prof BD Damral, Director-cum-Principal Dogra College of Education was also present. At the end, Team Mind Benders comprising of Ritu Bala, Bindu Bala, Neha Kumari, Agar Chander Pushap and Nisha Devi were declares as winners.
Vishwa Bharati Public Higher Secondary School, Akalpur Morh, Udheywala celebrated National Science Day and Prize Distribution function. MLA Bali Bhagat was the chief guest and Dr Usha Dhar, HOD from Department of Science, Vishwa Bharati College of Education was the guest of honour. The programme was attended by all the governing board members including JL Koul, Secretary College of Education and Public School, Dr SK Koul, Treasurer Jammu Units, Dr OP Razdan, Vice President, Vishwa Bharati Women Welfare Education, RL Tickoo Treasurer Srinagar Units, Prof Vinay Handoo from Department of Physics, BL Saraf, retd Sessions Judge, Prof Sunita Kampassi, Principal Vishwa Bharati College of Education, teaching faculty of the School and College were also present. Welcome address was presented by Annapurna Kaul, Principal of the School. During prize distribution function ceremony, chief guest awarded prizes and trophies to those who excelled in different co-curricular activities held during the year.
