JAMMU, Feb 27: To mark the birthday of the Nobel Laureate Sir CV Raman, National Science Day was celebrated here today.
Member Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma, alongwith Akhnoor MLA Rajiv Sharma, chaired a programme in connection with National Science Day at Government Degree College, Akhnoor. He also released college magazine for 2015-2016 besides distributing prizes among students for their participation in symposium, model presentation, science and Technology and World AIDS Day.
The college students, during the programme, displayed the models on Make in India, Skill India, Progressive India and Modernized India.
Jugal Kishore Sharma said that interest shown by the students towards various projects itself speak that there is need for getting equipped with all the modern and hi-tech activities for success after passing out of the educational institutions.
MLA Rajeev Sharma also spoke on the importance of such activities for the students.
College Principal Dr SP Sharma, Prof Surinder Singh Parihar, Monika Malhotra and college staff were also present.
To celebrate National Science Day, a function was held at Ankur Vidyalaya Public High School, Jawahar Nagar, New Plot, in which students participated with enthusiasms. It was organized by Society for Popularization of Science in collaboration with Lakshmi Charitable Trust Jammu.
Twelve students of the school spoke on the occasion about the revolution brought about by science over the past century.
The function was presided over by noted environmentalist Prof B L Kaul and the chief guest on the occasion was AK Parimoo, Chairman Lakshmi Charitable Trust Jammu. The function was also attended by Dr AK Verma, Kiran Raina and Rama Anand as guests of honour.
AK Parimoo exhorted the students to cultivate a science temper in their day-to-day lives and follow principles of hygienic living.
Prizes were given to students who spoke on the occasion and sweets where distributed among all.
Earlier, Principal of the school Raj Shri Sharma presented the welcome address, whereas in the end, Anupama Sharma presented vote of thanks.
Vishwa Bharati Public Higher Secondary School, Akalpur Morh, Udheywalla celebrated National Science Day. Principal Prof Annapurna Koul was the chief guest on the occasion. The whole programme was organized by the primary wing of the school. On the occasion, students displayed their respective presentations and experiments based on everyday science. Pamposh Nehru and Girja Razdan were the judges.
