National Science Day celebrated, discovery of Raman Effect commemorated

JAMMU, Feb 28: National Science Day was celebrated by different organizations here today to commemorate the discovery of Raman Effect by Indian Physicist, Sir C.V Raman in the year 1928.
CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine, Jammu, premier R&D organization under the aegis of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Union Ministry of Science & Technology celebrated National Science Day. Keeping in mind theme of National Science Day ‘Global Science for Global Wellbeing’, programmes were held in the institute wherein IIIM-Technology Business Incubator organized Hackathon 1.0 in the institute which offered a platform to startups to share their business ideas related to Science and Technology which have potential to be converted into promising products/technologies. Dr. Zabeer Ahmed, Chief Scientist, CSIR-IIIM and Chairman of the Evaluation Jury in his message said that such events are very important for the IIIM-TBI, Jammu to develop a strong network with the local startups working in the field of Biotechnology & Life Sciences.
Inaugurating National Science Day-2023 organised by the Department of Zoology in association with Directorate of Students Welfare (DSW), Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Vice Chancellor, Prof. Farooq Ahmad Shah underscored the need for inculcating and promoting scientific temper among the students and masses for the growth, progress and development of the nation on the scientific front.
On National Science Day, School of Sciences (SOS) in collaboration with National Centre for Innovations in Distance Education (NCIDE) and Regional Services Division (RSD), IGNOU organized a lecture by Dr. Manzoor Ahmad Shah, Professor, Department of Botany, University of Kashmir. Another function was organized at Regional Center Srinagar in which the winners who participated in the essay writing competition were awarded with certificate and citation.
To recognize and appreciate the significant contributions of scientists and researchers to society and to promote scientific temperament amongst students, Department of Botany and Zoology, Cluster University of Jammu celebrated the National Science Day 2023. The event was graced by Prof. J.S Tara, former Head, Department of Zoology, University of Jammu and presently the Convener of Indian Science Congress Association, Jammu Chapter and he made the students aware about scientific discoveries and the impact they have in our lives.
J&K and Ladakh Geo-Spatial Data Centre, Survey of India, Jammu celebrated National Science Day-2023 and an exhibition was organized on this occasion.
NSS unit of K.C College of Education organized a Nukkad Natak and a cleanliness drive at slum area, Udheywala to celebrate National Science Day.
Chenab College of Education, Kaluchak celebrated National Science Day and organized a seminar which was followed by a quiz competition on the theme ‘Global Science for Global Wellbeing’.
These activities were organized under the guidance of Incharge Science Club, Megha Jasrotia.
On National Science Day, Department of Chemistry under the patronage of Prof. Rajesh Gupta, Principal GGM Science College and under guidance of Dr. Poonam Kamotra, HOD Chemistry organized a poster making competition on theme ‘Global Science for Global Well-being’.
GLDM Degree College Hiranagar organized a seminar on GM Crops to celebrate National Science Day-2023 in Collaboration with JK Science, Technology and Innovation Council. Dr. Pragya Khanna, Principal GLDM Degree College Hiranagar exhorted for a holistic approach of Genetic Modification (GM) techniques. She commented on the new initiatives in biotechnology and genetic engineering which is a matter of wonder whether it is going to be a solution or problem.
A seminar on National Science Day was organized at GDC Kishtwar in which students of different semesters along with the faculty participated. Dr. Jyoti Parihar, Principal of the College was chief guest. The programme was organized by Science Department.
National Science Day was celebrated by DHSS. Students displayed their innovative scientific projects and models to showcase their scientific skills and knowledge. Principal of the School Devinder Kour encouraged students to explore scientific concepts and promote scientific temper.
Army Public School Damana celebrated National Science Day and organized various educational as well as awareness activities including speech, talk, song on curiosity sung by tiny tots sensitizing students about myths and facts of science. The students portrayed importance of science in our day to day life and relation of scientific discovery with ‘Ancient Vedas’ through Vigyaan Geet. Shallu Kapoor, Vice Principal of the School encouraged the students for creative thinking.
