JAMMU, Feb 28: National Science Day was celebrated today with great enthusiasm by various educational and other institutions across Jammu and Kashmir.
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) jointly with the Indian Association of Physics Teachers organized a national level webinar on the topic “Science is Fun” as part of the National Science Day celebrations. Mineesh Gulati was the resource person for the webinar.
NSS wing of SKUAST-Jammu, under the guidance of the Vice Chancellor Prof J P Sharma celebrated National Science Day. Prof Rajesh Katoch delivered a lecture on the endoparasites of human beings. A quiz and painting competition was also organized. Many students took part in painting competition and six teams participated in quiz.
The Day was also celebrated in BGSB University Rajouri. Staff, research scholars and students of the University participated in the celebration. Prof Akbar Masood, Vice Chancellor BGSBU in his message, highlighted the launching of four-fold integrated approach in S&T by Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh. Dr Tara Devi Sen Thakur, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Cluster University, Mandi, Himachal Pradesh delivered an invited lecture through virtual mode.
National Science Day Symposium (NSDS) was organized on the occasion at Jaypee University of Information Technology, Waknaghat, Solan. The Varsity organized various events including Quiz, Poster-Making Competition, etc for school students. The event was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Professor Rajendra Kumar Sharma.
PG Department of Physics, National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar celebrated National Science Day, in which a large number of Class XI-XII Science students from various schools of the Valley participated. The event was organized in association with the Sophisticated Analytical Instrumentation Facility (SAIF), Panjab University Chandigarh.
In this connection, the Environmental Club of KC College of Education organized an online Essay Writing Activity on the Topic “Role of Science in Protection of Environment”, under the guidance of the College Principal Dr Sanjay Tickoo. Students of Semester 3rd participated in the activity and showcased their writing talent.
To mark the National Science Day, Dogra Degree College held a Quiz Competition for the students of BBA, BA, BCom Semester 1st, under the supervision of the College Principal Bela Thakur. The theme of the quiz was “Science and Technology for Sustainable Future”. About 80 students participated in the first round.
A function to celebrate the Day was held at SSM College of Engineering, Parihaspora Pattan, Kashmir. Speaking on the occasion, Prof (Dr) Saifullah Lone, Department of Chemistry, NIT Srinagar, stressed upon the students to develop innovative approach in them. Principal Dr Sajad Hussain Din highlighted the importance of Science in our lives.
Government College of Education, Jammu organized a one-day Seminar on ‘Sustainable Development and Intellectual Property Rights’ to celebrate the Day. Dr Namrata Sharma, Professor, Department of Botany, University of Jammu, was the chief guest on the occasion while Dr Rahul Sharma, HoD, Biotechnology from GCW Gandhi Nagar, was the Resource Person.
Government Gandhi Memorial Science College, Jammu organized a Poster Presentation Competition on the theme of “Covid-19 and Mental Health” to commemorate National Science Day. The event was held under the patronage of Principal Dr Ravender Kumar Tickoo. Students of BSc Semester 1st participated in the event.
Padma Shri Padma Sachdev Government PG College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu organized three-day ‘Science Festival’ which concluded today. The activities organized during the three-day event were Model Making Competition, Guest lecture on the theme ‘Integrated Approach in Science and Technology for Sustainable Future’ and a seminar.
Government Degree College (GDC) Ramnagar in collaboration with Amity University Jharkhand celebrated National Science Day. An online lecture on the theme “Integrated approach in Science and Technology for a Sustainable Future” was delivered by Prof (Dr) Vishnu Agarwal. An inter college poster-making competition and essay writing competition were also organized.
HKM GDC Bandipora celebrated the Day by organizing a webinar which was attended by faculty members, academicians and scholars of various institutions. Prof Dinesh Kumar (VC Gurugram University), Dr Mohd Amin Malik (Principal of the host college) and Dr Shaifulla Lone (faculty, NIT Srinagar) made presentations during the webinar.
To mark the occasion, Government P G College Rajouri jointly with Department of Higher Education organized a symposium on the title “Integrated Approaches in Science and Technology for sustainable Future”. Ten students from various semesters of undergraduate classes participated in the symposium.
An extension lecture on the topic “Role of Insects in our Life” was organized in GDC Thanamandi as part of National Science Day. The lecture was delivered by Dr Tahir Hussain Shah from Department of Zoology. A good number of NSS volunteers attended the programme.
GDC Basohli organized a debate competition and a lecture to celebrate the Day. A total of six students participated in the competition, which was adjudged by Dr Shiv Kumar, Shabana Akhter and Sajjad Ahmad Dar. Dr R K Manhas, Assistant Professor in Botany presented the keynote address.
To celebrate the day, GDC Vijaypur organized an e-Quiz with the aim of inculcating scientific temperament amongst the students, to spread a message about the importance of science in our daily life. Students from various institutions across the Nation enthusiastically participated in the e- Quiz.
The Science Club of GDC Khour celebrated National Science Day by organizing a Quiz with the aim to spread awareness among the students regarding importance of Science in our daily life. All the participants were awarded with e-Certificates.
A Poster-Making Competition on the theme Cyber Crime & Cyber Security was organized on National Science Day by GDC Kathua. More than 50 students participated in the competition. The competition was adjudged by Prof Ritu Bhagat, Dr Rachna Raj and Dr Surya Partap Singh.
In connection with National Science Day, GDC for Women, Kathua organized a programme in which 6 students from various departments of sciences participated and spoke about the history and the significance of the Day with special emphasis on the theme ‘Integrated Approach in Science and Technology for Sustainable Future’.
The Day was celebrated at General Zorawar Singh Memorial Degree College Reasi by organizing a Poster-Making competition on various science related themes and a Video-Making competition “My favourite Scientist”. The event was organized under the guidance of College Principal Dr Chander Shekhar Gupta.
J&K and Ladakh Geo-Spatial Data Centre, Survey of India, Jammu celebrated the Day at its premises. On the occasion, an exhibition was organized in which different kinds of maps/digital maps, prepared by Survey of India and modern instruments/ technologies being used for mapping were displayed. An oral Quiz was also organized.
Play Way House Higher Secondary School Pounichak celebrated the Day with great enthusiasm in the school premises. The young scientists from classes 5th to 10th presented their projects and demonstrated in the respective classes. The celebration included live projects with various themes, speeches and debates.
