National seminar on Kashmiri Language commences

JAMMU, Jan 11: Three day National seminar-cum-workshop on the “Maintenance of Kashmiri Language, Literature and Culture, organized by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India in collaboration with J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Language commenced at KL Sehgal Hall.
Moti Koul, president, All India Kashmiri Samaj (AIKS) in his presidential address stressed on the need of preserving and promoting the Kashmiri language terming it as a soul of their existence.
“Kashmir language is the boon of seers and saints and it cannot die, but we have to play our role responsibly in enriching it”, Kaul added.
Though various KP organizations are rendering their service to this issues yet the need of the hour is to create a group of authorities on this subject, he suggested.
Dr Romesh Raina, general secretary, AIKS presented a brief report of AIKS initiative towards Kashmiri language and steps undertaken in keeping it afloat.
On the occasion, special issue of monthly AIKS Journal “Naad” and quarterly literary Kashmiri Journal “Vaaks” were released. Eminent playwright and theatre personality Padam Shri Moti Lal Kemmu was also felicitated for this contribution towards theatre and Kashmiri language.
In the seminar, about fifty noted Kashmiri scholars, writers from various parts of the country and overseas including Prof RL Shant, Dr Afaq Aziz and AN Koul will be presenting their papers on the subject.
Earlier, Prof Omkar Koul, presented the welcome address, while, Dr Roop Lal Bhat conducted the proceedings.
Among others present were KK Khosa, senior vice president, AIKS, Dr DL Chowdhary and Dr Meenakshi Kilam.
