JALANDHAR, Apr 21:
National Surgical Conference organised by the Jalandhar Association of Surgeons of India JASICON-2013 was held at the Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) here today.
Dr Abdul Majid Chaudhary, President of the SAARC Surgical Care Society & Principal of Medical College Lahore and Dr Abdul Sattar Memon, President of the Pakistan Surgical Society were the main attractions of the conference inaugurated by Punjab Local Bodies and Medical Education Minister Bhagat Chunni Lal.
In the conference, the surgical expert doctors discussed in depth the roots of breast cancer, surgery and treatment of breast cancer. The speakers also highlighted the challenging paradigms in the management of breast cancer, non surgical challenges in surgical practices besides new techniques of surgery including that of thyroid, hernia and laparoscopic ovary.
Principal-cum-Director of PIMS Dr Kulbir Kaur termed the conference a pride for PIMS so as to host such a national level conference of surgeons and said a new chapter would usher in the medical profession in coordination with prominent surgeon delegates from neighbouring Pakistan.
She said such conferences provide a boost to medical fraternity on the latest topics and challenges in the field besides providing a good forum for exchange of ideas and experiences.
Civil Surgeon Dr RL Bassan, Medical Superintendent PIMS Dr SK Bansal, Vice principal Dr Rajeev Arora, Dr PS Bakshi, President of Northern chapter of Association of Surgeons of India – ASI, Dr Chanjeev Singh, Secretary, Northern chapter of ASI, Dr Rajneesh Kumar, President of Jalandhar chapter, Dr SJS Bajaj of the Jalandhar surgical forum and executive member, Northern chapter of ASI were also present.
Dr Chanjeev Singh presented the annual & fiscal report of ASI. The minister also awarded Northern chapter fellowship awards to thirteen surgeons of the Northern chapter. (UNI)
