JAMMU, Feb 24: Director General of Police, (DGP), K Rajendra Kumar today received 96 students of the State from Bharat Dharshan Tour “Apna Watan Jano” at PHQ lawns here.
The students from five districts had left for the tour on February 12, organised by JKP under its Civic Action Programme.
Mr. Rajendra, addressing the students on the occasion, said that such tours instill cultural values in students and builds bridges of understanding by connecting them with the heritage of the country. “India has rich cultural diversity and students of far-flung areas should have knowledge of history and technological developments happening in the Nation”, he said.
DGP disclosed that this was the 5th batch of students from five districts of Baramulla, Budgam, Kulgam, Shopian and Poonch of the State. During their 12 days tour, students visited different historical places and educational institutions in the country and interacted with various dignitaries.
In Kolkata they visited Victoria Memorial, Howra Bridge, Eden Garden Park, Nicci Park, Sheed Minar, Digha Beach, Science City and Marble House, besides met the State Governor. They also interacted with Vice Chancellor Banaras Hindu University and visited Ganga Ghats, Alamgri Masjid and Trivini Sangam. The students were taken to Lucknow Zoo, British Residency, Dr.Ambedkar Park in UP, Rajghat, Red Fort, Qutub Minar, India Gate, Lotus Temple, Jantar Mantar, Rajpath and Indra Gandhi House in Delhi, he added.
Mr. Rajendra advised the students to use the knowledge gained during their tour and share experiences with other fellow students. He said that such tours enable youth of far-flung areas to see latest developments in advanced cities of the country and helps shape their career with better prospects in future. He said that the children are future of the country and they have been given an opportunity to visit world famous places and interacted with prominent dignitaries in their early stage of life. The experiences during the tour would guide them in future and inscribe sweet memories in them, Mr. Rajendra said.
The students also shared their experiences and happiness on visiting various historical places and educational institutions in different states during the tour. They said that in the camp they got an opportunity to listen to the intellectuals which was a great thing for them at this early stage of life. They also thanked the JKP for organizing such a valuable and enriching tour.
Earlier, the Commandant IRP 1st Bn T R Katoch, who is also Nodal Officer of the Programme, gave a detailed resume of the tour and briefed the DGP about the arrangements made for their boarding and lodging during the tour.
Among others, the function was attended by ADGPs, SP Vaid, Navin Agerwal and L. Mohanti, IGPs, HK Lohia and MA Ganai, AIGPs, Mohamad Hassib Mughal, Tahir Sajad, Kulbir Singh and Sheikh Zulfikar Azad, SO to ADGP Armed, Javaid Mattoo, C.Os of Armed and IRP Bns, SP Atul Sharma and other police officers.
