National Vaccination Day observed at SMGS Hospital

JAMMU, Mar 16: Department of Pediatrics, Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu observed National Vaccination Day today by organizing a seminar to spread awareness about the importance of vaccines.
Principal and Dean, GMC Jammu, Dr Shashi Sudan Sharma was the chief guest of the programme. Speaking on the occasion, she highlighted the contribution of pioneer of vaccinology Dr Edward Jenner, Louis Pasture and others in the evolution of vaccinology till date. She further appreciated the work done by the Department of Pediatrics in immunization activities and effectively implementing the National Immunization Programmes in the region.
In his welcome speech, Professor and Head, Department of Pediatrics, Dr Ghanshyam Saini mentioned the importance of immunization and said that vaccines help in preventing diseases that can be dangerous or even deadly. Vaccines reduce the risk of infection by working with the natural defences of the body to safely develop immunity to disease. He further mentioned that Department of Pediatrics at SMGS Hospital, Jammu is providing vaccination on Sundays also so that no one is left without vaccination.
Dr Pooja Bharti, Lecturer Pediatrics conducted the programme and Resident Doctor Dr Aneesh Uppal delivered a Lecture on the occasion.
Other prominent dignitaries present on the occasion were Professor and Head Pediatrics, ASCOMS Jammu, Dr Ravinder Kumar Gupta, besides faculty members of Department of Pediatrics, GMC, Jammu: Dr Sanjeev Kumar Digra (Professor), Dr Ashu Jamwal (Professor), Dr Sunil Dutt Sharma (Professor), Dr Anuj Bhatti (Associate Professor).
Dr Rakesh Kumar Sharma, Deputy Medical Superintendent SMGS Hospital, Jammu and other Paramedical and Nursing staff of SMGS Hospital were also present on the occasion.
