Natrang presents ‘Bawa Jitto’

JAMMU, Mar 5: Natrang in association with Airtel presented internationally acclaimed Dogri play ‘Bawa Jitto’ here this evening at Abhinav Theatre.
Written by Prof Ram Nath Shastri and directed by Balwant Thakur, this cultural pride of Dogras is the longest living contemporary theatre play of India.
Sangeeta Gupta, Principal Commissioner, Income Tax, was the chief guest on the occasion.
Based on the supreme sacrifice of a great devotee of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, this is the first play of the region which brought Dogri theatre into International limelight.
The play Bawa Jitto is based on a folk tale of Aghar Jitto (Katra). The story of Bawa Jitto portrays the age-old saga of exploitation of landless farmers by landlords. Girdhari Lal and Harbans Lal, the folk artists rendered soul to the play with their ‘Karkan’ singing.
The role of Bawa Jitto was played by Arvind Anand who was supported by senior actors like Renu Sharma, Suresh Kumar, Anil Tickoo, Vijay Bhat, Subash Jamwal, Rahul Singh, Pawan Verma, Yaseen as Buddha, Sanchita Dubey and Shivika Verma.
The lights were designed and executed by Suraj Ganjoo. Prominent among those who graced the occasion include Aamir Ali (Executive Director and Secretary, JK Social Welfare Board), Raveendra Desai (Chief Operating Officer, Airtel J&K) and Ajay Khajuria (Marketing Head, Airtel, J&K).
