JAMMU, Nov 30: Natrang presented a very relevant and timely presentation of a new play in Hindi, ‘Damaad’ in its Weekly Theatre Series, Sunday theatre, today.
The election season highlighted in the play appeared so much related to our State where elections are on and so are intensive election campaigns, written by Suraj Singh Hindol and directed by Neeraj Kant.
The play carried a very interesting plot in which all the confusion and drama was created because a message was wrongly deciphered. In a locality where municipal elections were on all the contestants have intensified their efforts to get more and more votes. A poor family considers that their son-in-law is arriving in the evening and is worried about the proper hospitality. But they were disturbed time and again by the vote seekers who use all the ways for ensuring their win. One offers bribe, other threatens and another, the most cleaver one, tries to touch the emotional chord by acting sympathetic towards them. But it was very much clear that their purpose was just to win at any cost.
The poor man who represented the common man is shown intelligent and is aware of their desires and thus is not taken away by their baits. At the end of the day, it was revealed that it was not the son-in-law who was coming but just a vote seeker who had advertised his entry as if someone very close to the people is coming, it spoils the whole mood of the family who was eagerly waiting for someone very dear to come.
Natrang actors who acted in the play included Rajan Thakyal,  Namrata Chib, Juhi Singh, Pankaj Verma, Amit Raina, Masood Qadir, Arun Sharma and Shekher Sharma. Lights were operated by Neeraj Kant and the show was coordinated by Mohd Yaseen.
Prominent amongst those who graced the occasion included  Rakesh Gupta, Principal Secretary to Governor.
