JAMMU, Feb 10: Natrang today staged a new Hindi play “Bahu Ki Vida” in Sunday theatre series at its studio theatre.
The play, which carried a very relevant social message and warns against the evil of dowry was written by Vinod Rastogi and directed by Anil Tickoo.
The play opens at the home of one “Jeevan Lal” where “Parmod” has come to take his sister home for her first visit after marriage. The occasion is very special and auspicious but Jeevan Lal makes it bitter by embracing “Parmod” as they had given less dowry at the marriage of “Kamla”, Jeevan Lal’s daughter-in-law.
He denies sending her to her maternal home to complete the rituals to show his gesture of contempt. He also boasts that they had send their daughter with a huge dowry, when she got married and she would have been treated very warmly at the place of her in-laws.
His son “Ramesh” has gone to receive her for “Vida” and would come back with her very gracefully. But at the same time, to the dismay of all, Romesh comes back home alone as the in-laws of his sister had refused to send her home as the dowry, which they considered enough was not good enough for them and they expected more. Shattered by this, Jeevan Lal realizes his mistake and agrees to send Kamla with Parmod.
Ashwani Bali acted as Jeevan Lal, Suresh Sharma as Parmod, Sajra Qadir as Rajeshwari, Sakshi Parkash as Kamla and Mohd Yaseen as Ramesh.
The lights were designed by Anil Tickoo, while Summet Sharma coordinated the show and also did the presentation.
