JAMMU, July 30: To mark the 137th birth anniversary which is falling on 31st July of famous Hindi short story writer Munshi Prem Chand, Natrang presented a highly engrossing, emotionally charged performance of ‘Budhi Kaki’ written by Munshi Prem Chand and directed by Neeraj Kant at its Studio Theatre today.
The story of ‘Budhi Kaki’ revolves around an old woman, popularly known as “Kaki”, who just has one desire left and that is of good food. She is always engaged in only one kind of work, and that is craving for even a little thing. And her craving is too loud to even wake up a sleeping giant. Her attitude towards family members and vice-versa adds humour and makes the play humorous in many ways. But in the end, play takes a twist, which forces the family members to sympathize with Kaki. This play also gives a strong social message that would make everyone think about their loving parents.
Munshi Prem Chand had the amazing hold over the social fabric of the society and his portrayal of the fate of elderly people has been so close to realities that, this story of ‘Kaki’ provokes spectators to have a peep into his/her behaviour towards elderly people. Through ‘Kaki’ he advocated the cause of elderly people who sacrifice their entire life for the upbringing of their children and when they look up to them to reciprocate, then they are left to lead lonely lives with no emotional and social security.
Dewankshi Sabikhi as ‘Kaki’ gave an impressive engrossing performance. Vrinda Sharma too received appreciation of the audience as daughter-in-law. Others who performed in the play  included Brjesh Avtar Sharma, Mihir Gujral, Ananya Verma, Meenakshi Bhagat, Shivam Singh, Ashish Parihar and Sandeep Kumar. Lights were operated by Neeraj Kant whereas the music was rendered by Shivam Singh. The Sets were designed and executed by Shivam Singh and Brijesh Avtar Sharma. The hall management was looked after by Mahikshit Singh. The show was coordinated by Sumeet Sharma.
