JAMMU, Nov 1: Theatre group ‘Natrang’ here today staged Urdu comedy play ‘Jhootha Khwaab’-written by Shoukat Thanvi and directed by Neeraj Kant.
The play opens with a scene showing ‘Jhumman Miya’ in his room screaming and trembling with fear after waking up from a bad dream. In his dream, his father and grandfather visited him and predicted that he is to die that very day at four in the morning to join his forefathers in heaven.
Jhumman believes his death prediction to be true because according to him his father and grandfather would never lie to him. He checks the time and realises that he has only two hours left with him.
He calls everyone present at home and narrates the unfortunate incident. Rather than worrying about dying and leaving his family behind he is more concerned about settling the financial matters. He doesn’t want to waste time and hurriedly updates his wife about all his financial transactions and how much money he still has to recover from people and gives stern direction that she shall not let a single penny unrecovered from the people after he leaves the world to which she replies that there would be no fun of collecting the money if he is not with her and prays that this dream to not come true.
During all this discussion, the clock strikes four and Jhumman thinks he is dead and goes off to sleep.
His shock and grief-stricken wife starts wailing and crying so loudly that neighbours arrive to mourn his untimely death. A while later Jhumman wakes up realising that he isn’t dead as he thought he was and that it was indeed a false dream. The comedy satirizes money mindedness and materialistic nature of people.
Natrang young artists who acted in the play were Brijesh Avtar Sharma, Aarti Devi, Gopi Sharma, Chirag Anand, Akshit Kaul and Kuldeep Angral.
Lights of the play were designed and executed by Neeraj Kant whereas music was scored by Saanvi Anand. The show was coordinated by Mohd. Yaseen and the presentations were done by Priyanka Pandita.
