JAMMU, Oct 9: Nature camps for the second batch of the school and college students concluded at Dudu valley on Wednesday.
The camps were organized by Centre for Environment Education and Training and WWF-India jointly with State Education Department and Patnitop Development Authority under the National environment Awareness Campaign of Ministry of Envir-onment and Forests, Govern-ment of India, to strengthen the environmental education programmes of the schools and colleges.
More than 55 students from 15 schools, two BEd colleges, two Degree colleges and five NGOs participated in these camps.
During the 3-day of nature camps for each school and college, students and teachers were provided information about biodiversity, water conservation, global warming, melting of glaciers, climate change, seed banks, biodiversity register, traditional knowledge and practices.
The students were exposed to the benefit of morning exercise, knowledge of rainbow formation and its physics at rainbow waterfall. The students were also made aware of the significance of recharging of River Tawi from natural springs keeping it pollution free.
The students also enjoyed six kilometers of trekking in the adjoining mountains to document the agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry and forest biodiversity. Besides, Zero Waste concept was introduced during the camps and cleanliness drive was practiced by the students and teachers to keep the nature camp neat and clean.
Various competitions like painting, presentation and cultural activities were also conducted during the nature camps. In the end, prize distribution function was held and participation certificates were distributed among the nature campers.
