Nature’s Fury

Sir,
This has reference to the landslide triggered due to torrential rains in Malin village in Pune district in which more than a hundred people are reported killed and many othersare feared trapped.Though a strong team of 400 NDRF personnel has been doing a commendable job in carrying out relief and rescue operations braving inclement weather and difficult terrain and there are remote chances of the survivors buried underneath the rubble. This tragic incident has exposed how vulnerable man is to the fury of nature.Over the last few decades, man has played havoc with nature  by releasing green house gases, cutting trees recklessly,   fiddling with water and land resources, unbridled urbanisation, etc. quite unmindful of the nature’s repercussions. Nature has unleashed  its  power, anger and fury in the form of unseasonal rains,   rise in temperature, droughts, cloud bursts,     landslides floods, hurricanes, tsunamies, volcanoes etc.  to make man realise his folly of interfering with its course.
It is not that such calamities didn’t happen in the past but over the last few years such calamities have increased in frequency and magnitude.Perhaps nature wants to give the message that enough is enough and it wants no meddling with its own course.Such disasters claim thousands of life each year, besides causing huge financial loss to the affected country.Sometimes, the whole landscape of the affected place changes. It is said that it is never too late to mend.So it is high time that man realised his folly and stopped disturbing Nature’s balance and instead worked for restoring balance between environment and development to escape Nature’s wrath for his reckless actions.
Yours etc…
