JAMMU, Oct 5: The National Awami United Party (NAUP) has demanded that the rehabilitation centers be opened in all the districts of the Union Territory to combat the rising menace of drug abuse among the youth.
Addressing media persons here, Rohit Kumar, the President of NAUP, expressed deep concern over the unchecked drug supply that has taken root in society, adversely affecting the future of the youth in Jammu and Kashmir.
He called upon the administration to take urgent steps to eliminate the source of drug supply and protect the region’s students from falling victim to the substance abuse.
Kumar urged the establishment of five rehabilitation centers in all districts to provide a platform for those involved in drug consumption to receive help and support.
Highlighting a significant gap in the administration’s approach, he emphasized the need for a comprehensive plan and policy for rehabilitation centers. He questioned how the future of the region’s youth could be safeguarded without a concrete strategy in place.
Furthermore, the NAUP Jammu City President appealed to the administration to introduce meditation classes at various educational institutions, including schools and colleges, as well as in open parks.
Addressing the issue at its grassroots level, Mohit Dalhotra, the District Youth President of Jammu, shared insights into strategies to protect children from the drug menace. He also called upon the Police department to actively pursue the culprits involved in drug distribution.
