Navin reviews functioning of Excise & Commercial Taxes Deptt

JAMMU, July 27: Principal Secretary Finance, Navin Kumar Choudhary today conducted the review of the functioning of the Excise and Taxation Department at Rail Head complex office of the department here today.
Excise Commissioner, M Raju made a detailed presentation covering achievements of revenue in both Excise and Commercial Taxes as well as by the special invitees  of both the departments for achieving the targets  and to check any leakage/ evasion of taxes.
A special emphasis was laid  by the   Principal Secretary  for  checking the functioning of breweries, distilleries, bottling plants  and the liquor vends by way of constituting special teams.  He directed the officers to ensure that proper checks and balances are put in place to ensure that all organizations of the department work within the norms. He also laid emphasis on checking at Toll Posts  and asked the Commissioner to provide all the necessary infrastructure  to Dy Excise   Commissioner at Lakhanpur and DC Commercial Taxes Vigilance.  Officers were asked to lay special nakas to check pilferage.
Choudhary also directed that the department should take steps to ensure that all notifications of the GST are well advertised  and people know about them in time. He also announced special welfare measures for the staff and reiterated his full support for the dedicated and honest staff.
The meeting was also attended by Additional Commissioner (CT, Adm), Shiv Kumar Gupta; Manzoor Ahmed Bhat  Addl Commissioner (CT, Adm) Jammu, D S Kotwal Addl Commissioner (CT-SIU) J&K and Dy Commissioners of both the wings.
