JAMMU, Apr 9: The function of Navreh was celebrated this year with traditional gaiety and fanfare by the Kashmiri Pandit Sabha (KPS) at Ambphalla, here, today.
Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary J & K UT was the chief guest on the occasion. Dr. Ashok Bhan former DGP J & K was the guest of honour.
Deepali Wattal, a renowned Kashmiri singer, enthralled the audience with devotional bhajans. The general secretary of the Sabha, S L Bagati read out the annual report of the Sabha and apprised the members of the Biradari of its activities laying emphasis on the financial support extended to economically weaker sections of the community.
Chief guest and guest of honour were presented memento and shawl by the Sabha. Dr. Deepali Wattal was also honoured. Dr Sujata Sathoo, senior member of the Executive Committee of Sabha, conducted the programme.
A.K. Braroo, former senior vice president of the Sabha, who was the special guest on the occasion, delivered a lecture on the significance of Navreh celebration in Kashmiri culture.
K.K. Khosa, president of Sabha, read the welcome address and elaborated on the significant role played by the Sabha for past over a century in the service of the community. He apprised the members of the Biradari of the positive and responsible role played by the Sabha during the eruption of recent crisis among the Kashmiri youth.
Khosa requested the community, in general, and its leadership, in particular, to help in building new narrative especially in view of the fact that Union Government has succeeded in checking the menace of terrorism in the Valley to a large extent, barring a few skirmish targeted killings of minorities. However, threat letters or posters issued by the terrorist groups to minority community are a stark reality and cannot be ignored under any circumstances, he added.
He reiterated the request to recommend adequate political representation of KPs in the Assembly and Parliament and also demanded enhancement of cash relief.
Chief Secretary, Atal Dulloo, congratulated on the occasion of Navreh and Navratra festival. He said that we have assembled today so that we should follow our religious ethos besides adhering to them.
Guest of Honour Dr. Ashok Bhan appreciated the performance of KP Sabha under the guidance of K. K. Khosa its president. He stressed for putting an efforts to start and promote entrepreneurship for the community youth.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Deepak Dhar senior vice president of the Sabha.
