KPs observe Sankalp Diwas

JAMMU, Mar 30: Navreh festival- the first day of New Year was celebrated with fervor and gaiety by Kashmiri Pandits across J&K today. In this connection various socio-religious functions were held by the KP organizations.
On the second day of the ongoing “Navreh Mahotsav 2025,” the Kashmiri Pandit community today observed Sankalp Diwas (Day of Resolve) with solemnity and determination. Responding to a call given by Sanjeevani Sharda Kendra (SSK), Jammu, community members participated in pledge-taking ceremonies, reaffirming their collective commitment and aspiration to return to their homeland, Kashmir.
Organized events marked the day across various locations. Vivekananda Kendra Nagdandi hosted a significant “Navreh Milan” at Sanskriti Bhawan in Roop Nagar, Jammu, where attendees collectively recited the Sankalp (pledge).
Similar community pledge events were reported from Gurugram, highlighting the observance beyond Jammu and Kashmir.
Beyond these organized gatherings, the spirit of Sankalp Diwas resonated deeply within individual families. Countless Kashmiri Pandit households in Jammu, various parts of Kashmir, across India, and even abroad participated privately, reciting the pledge within their homes, reinforcing the personal and collective nature of the community’s resolve.
Sankalp Diwas forms the central theme of the second day of the core three-day Navreh Mahotsav celebrations, which run from March 29th to March 31st. The festival commenced yesterday, March 29th, with Tyaag Divas, honouring the sacrifice of the 15th-century scholar Acharya Pandit Shreya Bhat. Numerous events were held across Jammu and other cities to commemorate his contributions.
The Navreh Mahotsav 2025 will culminate in a concluding ceremony, the Navreh Samaroh, scheduled for Tuesday, April 1st, 2025.
A grand function was held at the Bhagawaan Gopinath Ji Ashram Udheywala Bohri to mark the first Navratra (Navreh celebrations). The function started with Guru Vandana and as usual Guru Geeta recitation competition was held on the occasion to promote Bhagawaan consciousness among the youth.
The competition was categorized in three categories i.e sub junior, junior and senior categories. Kamlesh Tufchi, Vijay Wali and S N Marhata acted as judges and the prizes were given to first three winners in all the three categories. The function was presided over by P N Shad a prominent poet. Ms Jai Kishori Patwari one of the founder trustees had all praise for the competitors. Dr Opinder Krishan Bhat managed the stage and vote of thanks was presented by secretary of the Trust.
The Zeashta Devi Prabandhak Committee (ZDPC) organized the Navreh Milan followed by the General Body Meeting (GBM) at Nardani, near here, today.
The Navreh Milan celebration commenced with traditional rituals, invoking the blessings of Mata Zeashta Devi for prosperity and well-being. The dignitaries and community members gathered to mark the auspicious occasion with devotional fervor. A discourse on the significance of Navreh, the Hindu New Year, was delivered by president Ravinder Kumar Jogi emphasizing the cultural and spiritual essence of the festival.
Following the celebration, the General Body Meeting of ZDPC took place, wherein key discussions on the development and future initiatives of the Sanstha were held.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks extended by general secretary, Romesh Khuda of Prabandhak Committee.
Navreh and Zangtrai function was organized by Trikuta Kashmiri Pandit Trust at Sai Palace Trikuta Nagar in which large number of people participated. MLA Bahu and senior BJP leader, Vikram Randhawa was the chief guest on the occasion. On the occasion Randhawa was presented a memento by the Trustees. Randhawa commended the Trust for organizing such functions, which he said is necessary to keep the traditions and customs of Kashmiri Pandits alive.
The significance of Navreh was also highlighted by some members of the Trust on the occasion. They also elaborate the role of Zangtrey. The Trust as per tradition distributed token of gifts among women to keep the tradition alive.
In connection with celebration of Navreh a grand function was organised by Mata Bhaderkali Asthapan Trust at Thalwal near here where over 250 members of Kashmir Pandit community took a solemn pledge to return to their homeland Kashmir. The oath was administered to them by Sanjay Kumar of Sanjeevani Sharda Kendra. The function was organised by Chand Pandita, organiser of the Trust under the leadership of Dilip Kumar Pandita president of the Trust. Its general secretary, Ashok Kumar Kaw also spoke on the occasion.
Navreh was also celebrated by All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference (ASKPC) at a function held at ASKPC Bhawan Durga Nagar. On the occasion speakers highlighted the significance of Navreh. The women folk were given token of gifts to keep the tradition alive on the occasion.
