NEW DELHI, Oct 26:
Finally acting on the complaints lodged by a whistleblower sailor, the navy today constituted a Board of Inquiry (BoI) to investigate the corruption charges against some senior officers of the eastern command.
The corruption charges were levelled by a sailor posted at naval station in Tamil Nadu.
Sailor Sunil Kumar Sahu, who is Shipwright Artificer, posted at INS Kattabomman in Tirunelveli, filed two written complaints against the financial irregularities of his senior officers.
The navy, in turn, shifted the sailor to nearest naval hospital to keep him under observation and medical attention, as he was found to be in a state of hyper anxiety and agitation. His family completely denied the navy’s claim. As the issues snowballed into a major controversy, the navy finally ordered the probe.
“A three member BoI which is headed by a Commodore rank officer, is expected to submit their findings in a fortnight,” a press statement issued by the Navy said. According to reports, the sailor in his complaints filed on October 13 and October 20 respectively has raised allegations of financial irregularities against his senior officers. “Sunil Kumar Sahu has been carrying out non-strenuous duties as he suffers from generalised seizures and low backache”, the statement said. According to the version given by the Navy, on October 22, the sailor was observed to be in a state of hyper anxiety and agitation.”Considering the limited medical facilities at Tirunelveli and safety of the sailor, Sahu was shifted to nearest naval hospital Sanjivini on October 23 for observation and medical attention. On a request from the sailor, his family has been permitted to accompany him to the hospital, as a special case,” the statement said. (UNI)
